Production Scheduler
ConfidentialPOSITION SUMMARY The Production Scheduler is responsible for developing and maintaining detailed production schedules that align customer demand, material availability, and manufacturing capacity across cable operations. Reporting to the Cable Finishing Manager, this role is critical to on-time delivery performance, work order execution, and visibility into production flow. The Production Scheduler serves as a key link between operations, materials, and planning. Ensuring that the manufacturing floor has clear, accurate, and achievable daily and weekly schedules. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS Production Scheduling: Develop, publish, and maintain daily and weekly production schedules for cable operations based on customer demand, work order priority, and material and capacity availability. Adjust schedules in real time in response to equipment downtime, material shortages, or demand changes. Work Order Management: Create, release, and maintain production work orders in SAP. Ensure routing accuracy, BOM alignment, and timely closure of completed orders. Coordinate with supervisors to sequence daily work and confirm accurate labor and material reporting. Capacity & Throughput Planning: Monitor work center loads across finishing and test lines. Identify bottlenecks, flag capacity constraints, and recommend adjustments to balance workload and sustain throughput targets. Material Coordination: Collaborate with Purchasing and Supply Chain to ensure raw material and component availability ahead of scheduled production. Track WIP levels and escalate shortages or lead time risks before they impact the schedule. Cross-Functional Coordination: Work closely with the Cable Finishing Manager, shift supervisors, quality, and warehouse teams to resolve schedule conflicts, prioritize customer-critical orders, and maintain clear communication of daily production priorities. Reporting & KPI Tracking: Generate and distribute scheduling reports, schedule adherence metrics, and throughput summaries for operations leadership. Support root cause analysis for recurring schedule disruptions and contribute to corrective actions. ERP Data Integrity: Maintain accurate planning data in SAP, including lead times, order quantities, routing sequences, and completion records. Identify and resolve discrepancies between system data and actual production status. Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities to improve scheduling processes, reduce changeover time, minimize WIP, and increase on-time delivery. Support 5S and lean manufacturing initiatives as they relate to production flow and planning. Communication: Serve as a central point of contact for production scheduling inquiries across departments. Participate in daily production meetings and provide clear, timely updates on schedule status and risk areas. SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND ABILITIES 3–5 years of experience in production scheduling, planning, or operations coordination in a manufacturing environment. Proficiency in ERP/MRP systems; SAP experience is preferred. Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, including use of pivot tables and data analysis for scheduling and reporting. Solid understanding of production processes, capacity planning, and work order management. Ability to read and interpret bills of materials (BOMs), routings, and production work orders. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a high degree of attention to detail. Effective communicator across production, supply chain, and management functions. Ability to manage competing priorities and make timely decisions in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. Familiarity with lean manufacturing principles and continuous improvement practices is a plus. EDUCATION High school diploma or equivalent required. Associate or Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Operations Management, Business, or a related field preferred. APICS CPIM certification or equivalent is a plus.
