Production Planner

Currently seeking a detail-oriented, hands-on Production Planner to support our manufacturing operations. This position is responsible for coordinating material pickout timing and deliveries to the production floor with the warehouse manager. Maintaining accurate bills of material (BOMs) based on production feedback to change quantities & or part numbers when needed. Another key focus will be managing the release, tracking, and closure of manufacturing work orders from order intake though shipment and closure of the project. This role serves as a key link between Project management, Production, Inventory, and Engineering. The successful candidate will ensure that production has the correct materials available when needed, that engineering and production changes are accurately reflected in our BOMs, and that work orders are properly maintained throughout the manufacturing process. The ideal candidate is organized, proactive, comfortable working on the shop floor, and capable of balancing system accuracy with the practical needs of a custom, engineered-to-order manufacturing environment. Key Responsibilities 1. Production Material Coordination Coordinate material pickouts and kitting activities to ensure production orders receive the correct components, hardware, raw materials, and purchased items for current and future projects. Work closely with the Warehouse Manager to prioritize material staging and delivery based on production schedules and current shopfloor requirements. Communicate material shortages, substitutions, and discrepancies from the floor to PMs and Purchasing as appropriate. Monitor material readiness for upcoming work order releases and coordinate resolution of missing or incorrect components. Investigate discrepancies between system inventory, physical inventory, and material issued to production as needed with the warehouse team. 2. Bill of Material (BOM) Maintenance Maintain and update BOMs in the ERP/MRP system based on documented production feedback, approved changes, and asbuilt machine configurations. Work with production personnel to capture component substitutions, quantity changes, omitted parts, additional hardware, and other buildrelated discrepancies. Coordinate with Engineering and Manufacturing Engineering to resolve discrepancies between released BOMs, drawings, and actual production requirements. Identify recurring BOM errors and work with the appropriate departments to correct root causes. Help improve the accuracy and completeness of BOMs for future machine builds 3. Work Order Release and Closure Prepare, review, and release manufacturing work orders in accordance with production priorities and material readiness. Verify that work orders contain the correct BOM, quantities, routing information, requirement dates and required documentation before release. Monitor open work orders towards project wind down and follow up on outstanding material, labor, documentation, and completion requirements prior to close out with the respective parties. Coordinate work order completion and closure, verifying that required production transactions and documentation are complete. Investigate open or incomplete work orders, material variances, and discrepancies that prevent timely closure. Maintain accurate work order status information to support production reporting, inventory accuracy, and project cost visibility. 4. Cross-Functional Coordination Work daily with the Warehouse Manager to coordinate picking, staging, material availability, inventory discrepancies, and replenishment needs. Serve as a point of coordination between the shop floor and the ERP/MRP system, ensuring that actual production activity is accurately reflected in system records. Communicate proactively when material or system issues threaten production schedules. Coordinate with Purchasing on shortages, late purchase orders, and critical components.
