POSITION SUMMARY

The Production Planner is responsible for the overall ownership and execution of the short-term production schedule, ensuring work orders are released, prioritized and completed in alignment with customer requirements and available manufacturing capacity. This role serves as the primary liaison between customer service, production, material planning, purchasing and other stakeholders to resolve scheduling conflicts, material shortages, engineering changes and fulfillment challenges. The Production Scheduler monitors production performance, maintains schedule integrity and key performance indicators, supports continuous improvement initiatives and proactively communicates risks that may impact customer delivery commitments while coordinating recovery plans to ensure on-time execution.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Overall ownership of the short-term schedule.
  • Timely release and re-schedule of required work orders.
  • Manage the production schedule based on available capacity, multiple changing customer requirements, and work with production and planners to drive the output on time.
  • Provide input to maintain scheduling KPIs to support production execution and continuous improvement.
  • Actively participates in manufacturing status meetings to provide schedule updates, issues or concerns.
  • Proactive approach to solving fulfillment challenges (schedule discrepancies, analyzing capacity, load balancing)
  • Act as the key contact point for customer service, manufacturing and material planners to provide solution or guidance for all queries/ conflicts.
  • Review finished Work Orders and ensure they were completed properly.
  • Maintain a level load schedule.
  • Maintain firm planned orders/Kanban.
  • Coordinate ECO’s (Engineering Change Orders) and reworks.
  • Identify potential impact ECOs could have on planned production, customer commitments, and revenue are identified and mitigate risk.
  • Support supervisors, group leaders, and lead hands with production information.
  • Identify shortages and work with Purchasing and Production to resolve.
  • Assist in resolving any inventory discrepancies.
  • Provide critical information to all Stake Holders, where builds will not complete on time and could affect the ultimate Customer completion date for Master Scheduled items.
  • Assist with co-ordination and negotiation of schedule recovery dates.

Education:          Diploma in supply chain management or materials management. 

Experience:       

  • 2-4 experience associated with machining, assembly and testing operations.
  • Working knowledge and experience with ERP systems.
  • Working with ECO’s, ECR’s and be able to do analytical work
  • Manufacturing experience

 

 

SKILLS, ABILITIES AND KNOWLEDGE

  • Ability to plan and co-ordinate work order releases generated by MRP system.
  • Working experience using Epicor ERP system to schedule is an asset.
  • Must have experience working with multi-level bills of material (BOM’s).
  • Capable of utilizing a multi-disciplined approach to develop and implement production planning and scheduling improvements.
  • Strong communications skills, both written and verbal.
  • Strong computer skills with experience using MRP and ERP systems.
  • Sound knowledge of lean manufacturing processes.

Salary Range: $58,000 - $65,000 CAD based on experience
