Westport Precision Partners, LLCProduction Planner / Customer Service & Expeditor Reports To: Operations Manager Location: Stratford, CT Employment Type: Full-Time Position Summary The Production Planner / Customer Service & Expeditor is responsible for coordinating customer orders from receipt through production and delivery. This position serves as a key communication link between customers, Program Management, Production, Purchasing, Quality, and Shipping to ensure jobs are scheduled appropriately, materials and resources are available, production stays on track, and customer commitments are met. The ideal candidate is highly organized, detail-oriented, proactive, and comfortable working in a fast-paced manufacturing environment where priorities can change quickly. This position requires the ability to monitor multiple jobs simultaneously, identify potential delays before they become problems, and communicate effectively with both internal teams and customers. Essential ResponsibilitiesProduction Planning & Scheduling Develop, maintain, and communicate production schedules based on customer requirements, due dates, material availability, capacity, and production priorities. Review open orders and determine appropriate production timing and routing. Coordinate production activities across machining, sheet metal, fabrication, welding, assembly, finishing, and other operations as applicable. Monitor work-in-process and identify jobs that are approaching or at risk of missing their required completion dates. Adjust schedules as priorities, customer requirements, machine availability, staffing, or material availability change. Work closely with Production Supervisors and Department Leads to establish realistic completion dates. Coordinate priorities and communicate schedule changes throughout the organization. Assist with capacity planning and identify potential production bottlenecks. Expediting & Production Control Monitor jobs throughout the manufacturing process to ensure they continue moving according to schedule. Follow up with departments regarding delayed, stalled, or incomplete jobs. Identify missing materials, paperwork, tooling, programming, inspection requirements, or other obstacles that may prevent a job from progressing. Coordinate with Purchasing regarding material availability and expected delivery dates. Work with Quality to identify and address inspection or quality issues affecting production flow. Escalate potential delivery issues to the appropriate manager or Program Manager. Maintain accurate job status information within the company's ERP system. Provide regular updates regarding job status, anticipated completion dates, and potential delays. Customer Service Serve as a primary point of contact for customers regarding order status, production progress, and anticipated delivery dates. Respond promptly and professionally to customer inquiries. Provide accurate status updates based on information obtained from Production, Quality, Purchasing, and other departments. Communicate changes to expected completion or delivery dates and work with internal teams to establish revised commitments when necessary. Maintain positive customer relationships while balancing customer expectations with actual manufacturing capacity and requirements. Proactively notify customers of potential delays rather than waiting for issues to escalate. ERP / Data Management Enter and maintain customer orders, due dates, job information, and production status within the ERP system. Maintain accurate production schedules and job priorities. Update job status, notes, dates, and other information as needed. Review ERP reports to identify past-due, upcoming, and at-risk jobs. Maintain accurate records of customer communications and production commitments. Assist with reporting related to on-time delivery, backlog, production status, and customer orders.
