Production Planner

United Gear & Machine Works Ltd., a division of Boundary Mining Group is seeking a Gearbox Rebuild Planner to play a critical part in the planning, purchasing, and execution of large gearbox rebuilds. The ideal candidate is highly detailed, proactive, and thrives in a fast-paced environment. The Gearbox Rebuild Planner must effectively collaborate and coordinate production across multiple departments. Knowledge or experience with industrial manufacturing and gearbox rebuilds is considered a strong asset, but a passion for planning is most critical. 

For over 60 years United Gear has specialized in gearbox refurbishment and gearbox enhancement. The company manufactures all styles of internal and external gears, including spur, helical, bevel and worm. United Gear has set itself apart by providing the highest quality gearbox refurbishment services to the open-pit mining and other industrial operations within North America. 

Key Responsibilities:
  • Play a critical role in the timely delivery of gearbox rebuilds through work order planning, product coordination, and detailed documentation control. 
  • After the initiation of the work order, the Gearbox Rebuild Planner will ensure the work order package is prepared for gearbox disassembly. 
  • Verify and/or complete work order process in the ERP. 
  • Create master rebuild process for new gearboxes in the ERP. 
  • During the rebuild process, ensure the shop work order package & drawing package is maintained consistently with the ERP. 
  • Inform the engineering staff of inspections needed. 
  • Ensure the jobs have necessary tools, contracted services, and parts to complete the rebuild in a timely manner. 
  • Work with suppliers and the Production Team to ensure timely execution of work and supply of products for rebuilds. 
  • Assist with shop activities such as supporting documentation control or providing information for estimating.  
  • Provide support to operations’ safety as an office OH&S Representative. 

Qualifications & Experience: 
  • Completion of a degree or diploma in industrial/mechanical/manufacturing engineering or other relevant education. 
  • 3-5 years in a similar role. 
  • Proficient with ERP systems and learning new systems. Preference to candidates with Infor Visual or Kanbanize experience. 
  • Understanding of component rebuild process. Preference to candidates with gearbox experience. 
  • Familiarity with industrial manufacturing methods and procedures.

  • Cross-Functional Communication – Able to clearly communicate with shop floor teams, engineers, and vendors. Strong written communication for documentation & ERP accuracy. 
  • Proactive Problem-Solving – Anticipates bottlenecks, takes initiative to resolve issues before they impact production, and is resourceful when dealing with supply or process constraints. 
  • Accountability & Ownership – Owns the planning side of rebuild services. Takes responsibility for accuracy and completeness of work orders, follows through on tasks and commitments, and demonstrates reliability in a critical operational role. 

Working Conditions:
  • In office, Monday to Friday, 6:30 am to 3:00 pm in the North Vancouver office. 
  • The work environment will be a combination of office work and shop work. 
  • Able to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Fast-paced environment requiring high attention to detail and ability to meet tight deadlines.
