Operations Planner / Estimator Talent HRizon is partnering with one of our clients to identify an experienced Operations Planner / Estimator to join their growing team. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who understands both sides of project execution: developing an accurate estimate on the front end and ensuring the project is properly planned before work reaches the field. Our client is looking for a hands-on professional who can take a project from initial scope and pricing through operational planning and execution. This individual will play an important role in ensuring labor, materials, equipment, schedules, and project information are aligned before crews mobilize. What You’ll Be Responsible For Estimating & Pre-Planning Review drawings, specifications, scopes of work, RFQs, and customer requirements. Prepare detailed project estimates including labor, materials, equipment, subcontractors, and other project costs. Perform quantity takeoffs and develop labor-hour estimates. Obtain and evaluate vendor and subcontractor pricing. Identify scope gaps, exclusions, assumptions, risks, and potential cost impacts. Assist with bid preparation, proposals, and pricing revisions. Maintain historical estimating and cost information to improve future estimating accuracy. Operations Planning Convert awarded projects into clear, executable operational plans. Determine manpower, equipment, material, tooling, and logistical requirements. Coordinate schedules with operations, project management, procurement, and field leadership. Identify long-lead materials, resource constraints, and potential scheduling issues before work begins. Support manpower forecasting and resource allocation across active and upcoming projects. Ensure field teams have the information, materials, equipment, and resources needed before mobilization. Project & Cost Support Compare estimated versus actual labor hours and project costs. Track productivity and identify significant cost or schedule variances. Support change-order pricing and additional-work estimates. Assist with purchasing and material planning as needed. Participate in project handoffs, planning meetings, progress reviews, and post-project evaluations. Use completed-project results to improve future estimates and planning assumptions. What We’re Looking For The ideal candidate combines strong estimating skills with a practical understanding of how projects are executed in the field. Preferred qualifications include: 5+ years of experience in estimating, project coordination, operations planning, construction, industrial services, or a related field. Ability to read and interpret drawings, specifications, scopes of work, and technical documentation. Working knowledge of labor, material, equipment, and subcontractor cost estimating. Strong mathematical, analytical, and problem-solving skills. Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and priorities. Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Outlook, and Microsoft 365. Experience with estimating, ERP, scheduling, or project-management software is a plus. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Detail-oriented approach combined with an understanding of real-world field execution. What Success Looks Like Success in this position means projects are better prepared before they reach the field. You will help ensure the right people, materials, equipment, information, schedule, and budget are in place before work begins. Performance will ultimately show up through: Accurate estimates Stronger project planning Improved field readiness Fewer avoidable project delays Better labor and resource utilization Improved cost visibility Stronger project margins The Person We Want We are looking for someone who thinks ahead rather than reacts after problems occur. You should be comfortable working between estimating, operations, project management, procurement, and field teams. You understand that a good estimate is only the beginn…
