Production Planner
ConfidentialWe are currently seeking a Production Planner that will be responsible for developing, maintaining, and executing production schedules that support customer demand, material availability, labor capacity, machine capacity, outside processing, and plant priorities across a custom metal fabrication environment. This role will use JobBOSS as the primary planning and execution system to manage work orders, review job status, support material planning, identify scheduling constraints, and provide clear visibility to plant and manufacturing leadership. The Planner will help strengthen Cardinal Metalworks’ planning discipline by improving schedule reliability, reducing backlog, supporting on-time delivery, and ensuring production priorities are aligned across Customer Service, Sales, Purchasing, Engineering, Quality, Shipping, and Operations. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Develop and maintain accurate production schedules in JobBOSS based on customer orders, due dates, lead times, material availability, labor resources, equipment capacity, and operational constraints. Create, release, update, and monitor work orders to ensure jobs are properly planned, sequenced, routed, and prioritized through fabrication, welding, grinding, powder coating, outside processing, assembly, and shipping. Use JobBOSS scheduling tools, job status visibility, and planning reports to identify bottlenecks, overloaded work centers, late jobs, hot jobs, material shortages, and capacity conflicts. Coordinate closely with Purchasing and Materials to review material demand, supplier delivery risks, reorder needs, outside processing requirements, and potential shortages before they disrupt the production schedule. Review MRP, inventory, and material forecast information to ensure required raw materials, purchased components, consumables, and outside services are available before jobs are released to the floor. Partner with plant leadership to balance workload across departments, machines, employees, shifts, and work centers while supporting Standard Technologies’ on-time delivery, backlog reduction, and throughput objectives. Monitor daily production progress against plan, identify schedule deviations, and make timely adjustments to recover missed operations or changing customer priorities. Communicate schedule changes, risk areas, priority jobs, material concerns, and recovery plans clearly to plant leadership and cross-functional stakeholders. Maintain accurate JobBOSS data, including due dates, job status, routings, operation sequences, material requirements, labor feedback, outside processing steps, completion updates, and shipping readiness. Support continuous improvement by analyzing schedule performance, late orders, backlog trends, capacity gaps, material constraints, and process delays to improve delivery reliability and production flow. Use JobBOSS to manage quote-to-job visibility, job release readiness, work order planning, production status tracking, and job costing awareness. Leverage JobBOSS scheduling functions to review work center loading, job sequencing, schedule impacts, capacity assumptions, and what-if scenarios. Use inventory and material management tools to review supply and demand, track stock availability, identify material shortages, and support purchase order timing. Monitor shop floor updates, labor reporting, operation completion, scrap or rework impacts, outside processing status, and job movement to keep schedules aligned with actual execution. Generate and review production, backlog, late order, WIP, material shortage, schedule adherence, and capacity reports to support daily operational decisions and leadership visibility. The above declarations represent a general outline of the duties and responsibilities of this position. Duties may be added or subtracted as business conditions or other circumstances require.
