Description

We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Production Planner to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing, implementing, and monitoring daily and weekly production plans for the sawmill, planer mill, and kiln operations. This role ensures customer demands are met while minimizing log inventory waste, optimizing lumber grade recovery, and keeping production within budgetary constraints. 



Responsibilities
  • Create and maintain detailed, feasible production schedules (Master Production Schedule) for sawing, drying (kilns), and planing.
  • Evaluate equipment capacity, manpower, and downtime to optimize flow and ensure maximum performance of sawing and planing lines.
  • Coordinate with Production, Maintenance, Logistics, and Sales teams to ensure schedules align with operational capacity and customer needs.
  • Monitor production key performance indicators (KPIs) such as recovery rates and downtime and prepare reports for management.
  • Maintain log yard inventory and coordinate with timber procurement to align raw material supply with production capabilities, minimizing excessive inventory.
  • Track customer orders from raw log input to finished product, ensuring timely fulfillment. 
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives related to planning, workflow, and productivity.
  • Produce regular reports and communicate scheduling updates to leadership and cross-functional teams.
  • Ensure planning processes support the mill's safety and quality objectives.

 



Qualifications
  • Post-secondary education in Forestry, Wood Products Manufacturing, Industrial Engineering, or Business Administration, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Experience in production planning, manufacturing coordination, or forestry operations is considered an asset.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • High proficiency with MS Excel and production planning or ERP/MRP systems.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment with shifting priorities.
