The Opportunity We are looking for an experienced, retail-minded Product Development & Merchandising Manager with an exceptional eye for products, colors, finishes, trends, packaging, and commercial appeal. Your primary responsibility will be identifying, selecting, and developing products that major U.S. retailers will want to buy. We want someone who can look at an existing product, recognize its commercial potential, and know how to improve it through changes in color, design, materials, finishes, packaging, assortment, or price positioning. You will work closely with overseas factories and our internal sales, purchasing, and creative teams to develop attractive, competitively priced, retail-ready products. This is not primarily an industrial design, engineering, or purchasing position. Strong product taste, retail instincts, and commercial judgment are more important than technical design skills. Key Responsibilities Product Selection & Merchandising Research retail trends, consumer preferences, competitor products, and emerging opportunities. Regularly study merchandise at HomeGoods, TJ Maxx, Marshalls, Burlington, Ross, and other major retailers. Identify promising products from factory catalogs, supplier presentations, trade shows, and existing manufacturing capabilities. Select products based on design, consumer appeal, retail pricing, and sales potential. Develop coordinated product collections and assortments for different retail customers. Identify opportunities to improve existing products and expand into complementary categories. Product Development Improve products through changes in colors, finishes, materials, patterns, handles, knobs, packaging, and other design details. Develop attractive color combinations, coordinated collections, and differentiated product offerings. Work directly with overseas factories to request samples and implement product changes. Evaluate product samples and provide clear feedback to suppliers. Help establish target product costs and competitive retail price points. Follow products from initial selection through sampling, packaging, and production. Retail & Team Collaboration Work with our sales team to understand retailer needs and buyer preferences. Help prepare product assortments and presentations for major retail buyers. Collaborate with our creative team on packaging, photography, and product presentation. Manage multiple product development projects and timelines. Attend domestic and international trade shows and supplier meetings. Travel internationally when required, including China and other sourcing markets. What We're Looking For Exceptional eye for color, design, product aesthetics, and presentation. Strong understanding of U.S. retail trends and consumer preferences. Ability to identify products with strong commercial potential. Experience selecting, developing, or improving consumer products. Understanding of retail price points, product costs, and value. Experience working with factories or suppliers. Ability to manage multiple projects independently and meet deadlines. Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills. Willingness to take ownership and turn product ideas into finished retail-ready programs. Preferred Experience 3+ years of experience in product development, merchandising, buying, product styling, or product selection.
