Product Manager - Emission Abatement & Selective Catalytic Reduction Systems
EnerflexBusiness Unit: North America Location: Houston, TX, US, 77095 Travel: Up to 10% Req ID: 4491 Product Manager - Emission Abatement & Selective Catalytic Reduction Systems Summary As the P roduct Manager for Emission Abatement & Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) Systems , you will serve as the primary technical authority on emissions control technologies for large-bore reciprocating internal combustion engines (RICE) . You will lead the engineering specification, design, integration, optimization, troubleshooting, lifecycle support, and regulatory compliance strategies for emission control systems across Enerflex’s power generation team. This role requires deep practical knowledge of Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR), oxidation catalysts, three-way catalysts, ammonia slip catalysts, urea/DEF and ammonia dosing systems, emissions instrumentation, controls, and exhaust-system integration . The SME will report to the Director of Power Generation and work across Product Development, Applications Engineering, Manufacturing, Commissioning, Service, suppliers, and customers to ensure emissions-abatement systems are technically sound, safe, reliable, manufacturable, serviceable, and capable of meeting project emissions requirements. Principle Responsibilities and Duties System Integration: Lead the scoping and integration of Emission Abatement equipment, primarily SCR systems, including catalyst modules, urea/ammonia dosing systems, and mixing ducts with natural gas reciprocating engines. Collaborate with Applications and Product Development team to ensure products meet project requirements and quantify technical risks for Management Teams. Performance Review: Review technology efficiencies, ammonia slip, and backpressure constraints to balance emissions performance with engine fuel efficiency. Review vendor proposals, calculations, P&IDs, general arrangements, equipment specifications, control narratives, and instrumentation requirements. Work with engine OEM data and project-specific operating profiles to identify technical risks before equipment release. Design Criteria: Establish design criteria for pressure drop, catalyst face velocity, mixing, exhaust temperature, instrumentation locations, service access, and catalyst replacement. Evaluate emissions-system operation across the engine's full operating envelope, including startup, shutdown, load changes and turndown. Fluid Dynamics & Thermal Analysis: Review Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) and thermal modeling, performed by sub vendors, to ensure uniform reductant mixing and temperature distribution. Simpler Systems: Advise and review proposed designs from sub vendors for 3-way catalyst, oxidation catalyst, and stack / ducting design for pressure drop. In House Testing: Develop best practices, review and develop testing procedures for technicians, and assist in procurement of testing instruments to validate shop unit testing. Liaison with 3rd party testing companies as needed. Develop requirements for instrument calibration, sampling location, sample conditioning, test stabilization, data recording, and test reporting. Root Cause Analysis: Liaison with sub vendors to diagnose complex field failures, including catalyst poisoning (e.g., from sulfur or lube oil), masking, thermal degradation, and dosing system malfunctions. Interpret collected data to distinguish between engine-related, dosing-related, catalyst-related, controls-related, instrumentation-related, and exhaust-distribution problems. Commissioning Support: Provide high-level technical guidance during the commissioning and testing of new emissions control installations, generally within the Company’s Shop. Provide Remote field support for Enerflex service technicians. Help establish company best practices and procedures for initial startup and commissioning of emissions-control systems. Contribute to the development of commissioning checklists, acceptance criteria, troubleshooting guides, and technician …
