PROCUREMENT MANAGER

Position Summary The Procurement Manager is responsible for leading procurement activities to ensure the organization has the materials, components, and services needed to support manufacturing operations while achieving competitive cost, quality, delivery, and inventory objectives. This role provides leadership to the procurement team and develops sourcing strategies for key direct and indirect material categories, with a strong focus on steel, fabricated components, and other materials critical to manufacturing operations. The Procurement Manager will build strategic supplier relationships, negotiate pricing and commercial terms, identify cost-saving opportunities, manage supply risk, and partner closely with Operations, Planning, Engineering, Quality, Finance, and other Supply Chain functions. The ideal candidate combines strong purchasing and supplier-management experience with a data-driven, continuous-improvement mindset and the ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. Essential Duties & Responsibilities Procurement & Strategic Sourcing Lead day-to-day procurement activities for assigned direct and indirect materials, components, supplies, and services. Develop and execute procurement and sourcing strategies aligned with production requirements and business objectives. Lead sourcing activities including RFQs, supplier evaluations, negotiations, supplier selection, and contract development. Establish competitive pricing and commercial terms while maintaining appropriate quality and service levels. Develop sourcing strategies for key commodities, including steel and other high-spend manufacturing materials . Monitor commodity and market conditions and identify opportunities to mitigate pricing and supply risk. Identify opportunities for supplier consolidation, alternate sourcing, and cost reduction. Partner with Planning and Operations to ensure material availability supports production schedules. Supplier Management Develop and maintain strong strategic relationships with key suppliers. Establish supplier expectations for quality, delivery, responsiveness, pricing, and continuous improvement. Monitor supplier performance using measurable KPIs and supplier scorecards. Lead supplier performance reviews and corrective-action discussions when expectations are not met. Develop alternate and secondary sources for critical materials to reduce supply-chain risk. Partner with Quality and Engineering to resolve supplier quality and technical issues. Support supplier qualification and development initiatives. Cost Management & Negotiations Lead supplier negotiations involving pricing, payment terms, lead times, freight, contracts, and other commercial terms. Identify, track, validate, and report procurement cost savings and cost-avoidance initiatives. Analyze purchase-price variance and other procurement-related financial metrics. Partner with Finance to understand material-cost impacts and support budgeting and forecasting. Utilize spend analysis and market intelligence to identify sourcing and negotiation opportunities. Develop recommendations based on total cost of ownership rather than purchase price alone. Leadership & Team Development Lead, coach, and develop Buyers, Planners/Buyers, or other procurement team members as assigned. Establish clear expectations, priorities, and performance standards for the procurement function. Develop team capabilities in negotiation, supplier management, strategic sourcing, ERP utilization, and data analysis. Ensure purchasing activities follow established approval processes, policies, and internal controls. Promote accountability, urgency, collaboration, and continuous improvement within the team. Cross-Functional Partnership Partner closely with Operations, Planning, Engineering, Quality, Finance, NPI, and other Supply Chain functions.
