From our early days in a modest shop just south of our current location at 3296 Yonge Street, we have grown into a neighbourhood destination known for quality, care, and consistency. With the addition of our Cedarvale location at 224 Vaughan Road, we now serve even more families while staying committed to exceptional service and the finest hand cut meats sourced from local Ontario farms. Alongside our premium meat selection, we offer curated pantry and produce items and a range of prepared foods made in house, including meals, soups, and savoury pies. The Role The Prepared Foods & Counter Associate is responsible for preparing and packaging high quality prepared foods within a premium butcher and specialty retail environment. This role supports daily production of sliced meats, salads, and ready to serve items while also serving customers at the retail counter. In addition, the position is responsible for managing reach in displays, maintaining par levels, and ensuring retail counters and freezer units are fully stocked. Key Responsibilities Prepare and package sliced meats, salads, and prepared food items according to established recipes and portion standards Operate slicers and food preparation equipment safely and efficiently Serve customers at the retail counter, including slicing meats and answering product questions Manage reach in displays and ensure products are properly rotated and attractively presented Maintain par levels for prepared foods and retail freezer inventory Restock freezer and refrigerated units to ensure full and accurate product availability Monitor inventory levels and communicate replenishment needs Follow all food safety, sanitation, and temperature control standards Maintain a clean, organized, and professional workspace Support general retail operations as required Room to Grow This is a position for someone who wants to grow with our business. You will work closely with our owners and management team and learn how a specialty butcher shop runs from the inside, including inventory management and ordering, sales and merchandising, and day to day store operations. For the right person, this role offers a path into supervisory and management responsibilities as the business continues to grow. Qualifications Experience in a butcher shop, deli, restaurant, or food retail setting is an asset; we will train the right person Comfortable operating, or willing to learn, meat slicers and food prep equipment Strong organizational skills and attention to inventory detail Professional and customer oriented demeanor Ability to work efficiently during peak periods Interest in learning the business and taking on more responsibility over time Food Handler Certification is an asset Comfortable standing for full shifts, lifting and carrying product, and working in refrigerated and freezer areas Availability that includes weekends Compensation & Benefits Pay will be based on experience Health and dental coverage provided upon successful completion of the three month probation period Hands on training and mentorship from our owners and management team The Friendly Butcher welcomes applications from all qualified candidates.
