We specialize in: Structural steel fabrication Miscellaneous metals (stairs, handrails, embeds, platforms) Custom metal buildings and components End-to-end project support: design, fabrication, and erection Position Overview We are looking for a highly organized and detail-oriented Pre-Construction Project Coordinator to bridge the critical gap between our sales/estimating team and the start of fabrication and construction. In this role, you will take ownership of awarded projects immediately after the sale, managing all planning, detailing, field verification, and administrative coordination required to ensure a seamless handoff to the shop floor and erection teams. This is an essential operational role for someone who excels at technical problem-solving, field coordination, and cross-team communication in the commercial steel industry. (Note: This role focuses on post-award execution; you will not be responsible for initial estimating takeoffs). Key Responsibilities Lead the internal project kickoff process, taking over awarded contracts from the sales and estimating team. Conduct on-site visits to active construction sites for field measurements, site condition assessments, and scope clarification prior to detailing and fabrication. Collaborate directly with General Contractors, field superintendents, and clients to resolve any discrepancies between architectural plans and actual site conditions. Conduct thorough reviews of architectural and structural drawings, contract documents, and specifications to identify scope gaps or constructability issues. Manage the entire structural and miscellaneous steel detailing process, coordinating with in-house or third-party detailers. Draft, submit, and track pre-construction Requests for Information (RFIs) during the detailing phase to resolve design discrepancies before fabrication begins. Oversee the submittal process, ensuring shop drawings and product data are reviewed, submitted, and approved on schedule. Coordinate with the purchasing department to identify and procure long-lead materials and specialty items prior to fabrication. Utilize construction management software (e.g., Procore, Bluebeam) to manage document control and project correspondence. Qualifications Required: 3–5+ years of experience in project engineering, project coordination, detailing, or field operations within the commercial steel or construction industry. Strong working knowledge of structural steel, miscellaneous metals, and fabrication processes. Expertise in reading and interpreting complex architectural and structural construction drawings. Familiarity with ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) and TAS (Texas Accessibility Standards) codes, particularly as they apply to stairs, handrails, and ramps. Ability to travel locally to active job sites for field measurements and client coordination. High proficiency in document control and construction software (e.g., Bluebeam, Procore, AutoCAD, or similar). Exceptional organizational, time-management, and written communication skills. Preferred: Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field. Familiarity with reviewing and checking shop drawings and erection plans generated by detailing software (e.g., Tekla, SDS/2).
