Plant Buyer
Hammond Power SolutionsAs a Plant Buyer , you’ll play an important role in supporting our Sterling operation by helping ensure the right materials are available at the right time to keep production moving. You’ll manage purchase orders, follow up with suppliers, monitor commitments, and work closely with Planning, Production, Warehouse/Logistics, and Supply Chain to address issues before they become disruptions. This is a hands-on role for someone who enjoys a fast-paced manufacturing environment, takes ownership of the details, and isn’t afraid to pick up the phone and get answers. What You’ll Do Turn MRP/ERP requirements into accurate and timely purchase orders. Own day-to-day purchase-order execution, including confirmations, delivery dates, open orders, and supplier commitments. Build strong working relationships with suppliers through proactive and professional follow-up. Stay ahead of late deliveries, shortages, and potential material constraints, escalating issues when additional support is needed. Maintain accurate purchasing data, including PO dates, supplier information, pricing, and applicable item/site information. Partner with Planning, Production, Warehouse/Logistics, and Supply Chain to solve material availability issues and help keep production on schedule. Support inventory reviews and investigate purchasing-related discrepancies. Obtain quotations for local and non-strategic requirements and execute purchases within approved sourcing strategies. Support logistics, intercompany transactions, and applicable IMMEX purchasing and coordination requirements. Maintain strong purchasing documentation, standard work, and process discipline. Cross-train and partner with the other Sterling buyer to ensure seamless backup coverage and continuity. What You Bring We’re looking for someone who is organized, persistent, collaborative, and comfortable taking ownership . Ideally, you’ll bring: 2–5 years of experience in purchasing, materials, planning, supply chain, or manufacturing support. Experience working with ERP/MRP systems and managing purchase orders. Microsoft Dynamics 365 experience is a plus, but not required. Strong Excel skills and confidence working with purchasing, inventory, and material-planning data. The ability to manage multiple suppliers, open orders, changing priorities, and deadlines. The confidence to follow up with suppliers, ask the right questions, and drive commitments. Strong written and verbal communication skills. A practical, solutions-focused approach to day-to-day challenges. The judgment to know when to solve an issue independently and when to escalate. A team-first mindset and willingness to cross-train and provide backup support. Comfort working in a hands-on, fast-moving manufacturing environment. Why This Role Matters Materials availability directly impacts our ability to serve our customers and keep production running.
