About the Role We are looking for a sharp, detail-oriented Technical Permit Specialist / Sign Code Expeditor to drive the complete permitting lifecycle in our high-volume commercial sign shop. This is a technical, execution-heavy role focused on navigating complex municipal sign codes, assembling complete submittal packages, and driving plan-check approvals through municipal desks across the Greater Phoenix area and nationwide accounts. Whether your technical permitting experience comes from commercial signage, civil engineering, land surveying, telecom, solar, or municipal plan check departments, if you know how to read civil site sets, interpret zoning ordinances, and push submittals through city counters, you will thrive here. Key Responsibilities & Core Workflow Sign Code & CSP Audits: Perform deep technical reviews of municipal sign codes (City of Phoenix Chapter 7, Mesa, Scottsdale, Tempe, etc.), Comprehensive Sign Plans (CSPs), and land-use stipulations to extract maximum allowable square footage, height limits, letter cap heights, and setback lines. Submittal Package Assembly: Build air-tight permit packages—compiling scaled site plans, architectural elevations, structural engineering calculations, plot maps, and electrical specs (12V/24V LED configurations) to ensure zero rejections for incomplete data. Driving the Submission Process: Actively manage the submittal pipeline through online municipal portals (SHIFT, Accela) and in-person planning counters, aggressively tracking plan-checker review timelines to eliminate project bottlenecks. Technical Correction Resolutions: Work directly with city plan reviewers, zoning administrators, structural engineers, and our internal CAD/drafting team to rapidly address redlines, plan-check comments, and code corrections. Variances & Special Permits: Prepare technical documentation for Comprehensive Sign Plan (CSP) amendments, minor variances, and Board of Adjustment submittals when project scopes require special approvals. Site Verification & CRM Management: Verify property lines, utility easements, and structural wall substrates (stucco/foam/CMU) against civil drawings. Maintain real-time permitting milestone data in our shop CRM (Squarecoil). Technical Qualifications & Experience Hands-On Permitting Experience: 3+ years managing technical permit submittals in commercial signage, civil engineering, land surveying, telecom, solar, or commercial construction. Sign Code & Blueprint Literacy: Proven ability to read architectural detail sheets, civil site plans, structural engineering stamps, and translate complex municipal sign code matrices into actionable shop constraints. Municipal Navigation: Direct experience submitting through Greater Phoenix municipal planning departments and online portals (Accela, SHIFT, etc.). Process-Driven Mindset: Relentless follow-through skills to keep plan checkers accountable, resolve plan-check comments, and keep shop production schedules on track. Software Skills: Proficiency with Adobe Acrobat/Bluebeam for plan markups, online city submittal portals, and CRM work-order software (Squarecoil experience is a plus). What We Offer Competitive base salary + performance bonuses based on submittal velocity and approval rates. Full benefits package (Health, Dental, Vision, 401k). Direct collaboration with senior sales, engineering, and shop fabrication teams. A fast-paced, high-volume environment where your technical expertise directly impacts production and installation schedules. To Apply: Submit your resume along with a summary of the most complex municipal codes or technical permit packages you have managed.
