DESCRIPTION OF WORK This position supports highway and bridge maintenance by operating vehicles, assisting with repairs, and performing manual labor as part of a skilled crew. It focuses on safe equipment use, hands-on roadway tasks, and maintaining awareness of work conditions. As a PennDOT CDL Operator, you will perform the following duties: Equipment Operation: Operate trucks, loaders, and other assigned machinery for roadway and bridge maintenance License Compliance: Maintain CDL requirements and complete daily equipment checks in accordance with regulations Traffic Control: Perform flagging duties to support safe traffic flow when equipment is not being operated Manual Labor: Carry out tasks such as clearing culverts, cutting brush, erecting signs, and performing basic roadway repairs Maintenance Support: Make minor equipment adjustments, assist mechanics with repairs, and demonstrate equipment use to others Safety Awareness: Follow safety procedures, observe work area hazards, and report all injuries, accidents, and near misses Interested in learning more? Work Schedule and Additional Information: Full-time employment Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch. Dual shifts, overtime, and travel may be required. QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY Minimum Experience and Training Requirements: Successful completion of the Transportation Equipment Operator Trainee Program (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or Graduation from a Commercial Driver’s License Training School; or An equivalent combination of experience and training. Special Requirements: This position requires possession of an active Pennsylvania Class A or B Commercial Driver's License or equivalent with the Air Brake (L) and Manual Transmission (E) Restrictions removed. This position requires employees to demonstrate successful operation of equipment with a manual transmission. This position requires possession of an active Medical Examiner’s Certificate in accordance with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration Regulations. This position requires possession of an active certification issued by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation in the operation of heavy trucks and loaders, and two additional pieces of construction equipment, within the probationary period. This position requires possession of an active Tank Vehicle Endorsement (N) during the probationary period and continuously maintain it while employed in this job. This position may require additional certifications issued by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation on assigned pieces of equipment.
