Job Summary:

The Patient Transportation Driver safely transports patients to and from medical, dental, behavioral health, referral and specialty care appointments. They may also be required to transport medications, deliver mail, supplies and equipment between BRMC facilities. They assist the Director of Building Operations to assure appropriate vehicle maintenance, fuels, cleans and maintains company vehicles. The driver must adhere to all local, state and federal regulations regarding the transportation of patients and must maintain HIPAA compliance. The role requires a clean driving record, a valid Virginia driver’s license, and a compassionate, patient demeanor. Must demonstrate a sincere dedication and loyalty to the mission, vision and core values of BRMC.

 

Essential Job Duties and Functions:

  1. Provides safe, non-emergent transportation and adheres to all traffic laws.
  2. Assists passengers in boarding and exiting the vehicle and properly securing seat belts prior to departure.
  3. Maintains good working relationships with various outside transportation providers.
  4. Completes a transport vehicle check prior to each BRMC transport to ensure the vehicle is in proper, safe working order, fueled, all fluids are at proper levels, vehicle(s) clean and in operational readiness.
  5. Responsible for ensuring agency’s transport vehicle is maintained, in good working order, and contains all necessary required supplies. Reports any defects and/or deficiencies in the agency’s transport vehicle to supervisor as soon as they are noted.
  6. Maintains transportation logs of patients served and mileage driven with agency vehicle. In collaboration with Call Center, plans efficient routes to avoid delays, optimize efficiency of service and to ensure timely arrivals.
  7. Must report all incidents and/or accidents, when safe to do so, to BRMC management.
  8. Provides the highest level of customer service to all patients and community partners. Communicates and interacts with all BRMC staff in a professional manner.
  9. Promptly communicates with the transportation schedulers to ensure timely delivery of services.
  10. Must immediately report any vehicle violation(s) that may negatively affect the employee’s DMV record to supervisor.
  11. Attends and participates in staff meetings and trainings as required.
  12. Performs all other duties as assigned by supervisor.
