Part-Time School Transportation Router/Driver
Education AlternativesSummary The Transportation Router/Driver is responsible for supporting the daily transportations operations of the Education Alternatives transportation department. This part-time, hourly position coordinates student transportation routes, communicates with parents/guardians, assigns and adjusts driver routes, and responds to daily transportation changes, call-offs, and coverage needs. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Essential duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Develop, maintain, and adjust student transportation routes based on student addresses, school locations, transportation requirements, and operational needs. Assign drivers to regular student routes and make adjustments when routes or staffing needs change. Monitor daily transportation schedules to ensure routes are adequately staffed and operational. Maintain regular communication with the Building Director and school staff regarding transportation needs and concerns. Utilize FleetPaths to review, update, and maintain student transportation routes and assignments. Coordinate changes to student transportation schedules, including new enrollments, withdrawals, address changes, schedule changes, and other transportation needs. Review routes for efficiency and identify opportunities to improve transportation schedules, travel times, and driver utilization. Communicate with parents/guardians when transportation schedules, pick-up/drop-off locations, or other route-related information changes. Respond to parent/guardian concerns regarding transportation and communicate issues to the building director when necessary. Serve as a substitute driver when emergency transportation coverage is needed. Provide coverage for driver call-offs, unexpected staffing shortages, or other immediate transportation needs. Assist with mid-day routes, student transportation changes, appointments, activities, or other transportation needs as assigned. Maintain accurate transportation records, route information, and scheduling documentation. Protect confidential student, family, and employee information in accordance with Education Alternatives policies and applicable privacy requirements. Perform other transportation-related duties as assigned by the Building Director. Qualifications To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Must maintain an active, valid driver's license. Must maintain a clean driving record that meets Education Alternatives' requirements for operating company vehicles and transporting students. Must be able to successfully complete any required driver background checks, motor vehicle record checks, and transportation-related requirements. Experience working in a school or educational setting is preferred. Strong organizational and time-management skills. Ability to effectively manage multiple transportation changes and priorities throughout the day. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Professional and courteous communication style when working with parents, drivers, students, and staff. Basic computer proficiency and ability to learn and utilize transportation software systems. Ability to maintain confidentiality and follow organizational policies and procedures.
