The Dougherty County Public Works department is hiring for a Parks & Operations Manager. The purpose of this position is to manage operations of various parks and gardens in the unincorporated areas of Dougherty County.
This class works independently, under limited supervision, reporting major activities through periodic meetings.
• Assists with the design, installation and coordination of special in-house landscape projects and seasonal color schedules.
• Supervises assigned staff (i.e. volunteers, interns and working crews) on park projects. Plans, organizes, and supervises daily and weekend operations and activities of park projects.
• Ensures compliance with all applicable codes, laws, regulations, standards, policies and procedures to ensure safety of staff and the public.
• Identifies and has knowledge of plant materials, growing conditions, soil requirements and plant pestilence. Presents recommendations for planting of trees or the excavation of same.
• Performs various manual/specialized work duties associated with park projects as needed; and may operate a variety of light equipment and tools associated with park projects.
• Receives various forms, reports, schedules, invoices, work orders, drawings, blueprints, manuals, or other documentation; reviews, processes, approves, forwards or retains as appropriate.
• Monitors status of work in progress; inspects completed work. Monitors staff performance and progress. Consults with assigned staff to review project requirements and problems; provides direction, advice and technical expertise.
• Communicates with management, employees, county departments, officials, vendors/service providers, contractors, the public, and other individuals as needed to coordinate work activities, review status of work, exchange information, resolve problems, or give/receive advice/direction.
• Makes budgetary recommendations concerning proposed park and garden projects.
• Communicates via telephone and/or two-way radio; provides information, takes and relays messages, responds to requests for service.
• Monitors inventory of equipment, tools and supplies, coordinates availability of equipment, tools, and materials needed for projects.
• Interacts with the public to provide tours and group presentations of facility. Attends meetings as appropriate; serves on committees as needed; makes speeches or presentations.
• Performs related work as assigned.
• Associates or vocational technical degree equivalent to satisfactory completion of two years of college education with emphasis in areas such as horticulture, landscape architecture, pesticide/chemical application, or other related area.
• One (1) to two (2) years of experience

: Physical demands refer to the requirements for physical exertion and coordination of limb and body movement.
• Performs medium work that involves walking, standing, stooping, jumping, lifting, digging, pushing and raising objects and also involves exerting between 20 and 50 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis and 50 to 100 pounds of force on an occasional basis.
Unavoidable Hazards (Work Environment): Unavoidable hazards refer to the job conditions that may lead to injury or health hazards even though precautions have been taken.
• Involves routine and frequent exposure to:
o Bright/dim light; Dusts and pollen.
o Extreme heat and/or cold; Wet or humid conditions.
o Extreme noise levels, Animals/wildlife.
Special Certifications And Licenses:
• Must possess and maintain a valid state commercial driver’s license with an acceptable driving history.
• Must possess a Georgia’s Applicator Cat.24 certification/license within the first 6 months of employment.
