    POSITION: Transportation Paraeducator

    SCHOOL:  District-wide

    START DATE: July 7, 2026

    OPENINGS:

    1 Part-time position: 29 hours per week 

    REMUNERATION: Paraeducators' Collective Bargaining Agreement (attached)

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Associate's Degree or passing score on CT ParaPathways Exam
    • Ability to lift up to 40lbs to assist students getting in and out of the vehicle
    • Must be able to ride on a school bus or student transportation vehicle
    • Physically able to navigate the stairs of vehicles and/or the emergency exits

    OVERVIEW:

    The transportation paraeducator supervises and supports students as they travel to and from school on school buses and/or student transportation vehicles. Work hours are typically during school arrival and departure times, and occasionally include additional hours for field trips

    PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

    Given the nature of the position, it is not possible to list every job task and responsibility. The list below is intended to describe various types of work that may be performed, but it is not meant to be all-inclusive.

    In coordination with the Transportation Supervisor, the Transportation Paraeducator will: 

    • Supervise students during transport to and from school, including regular monitoring of issues related to student safety and emotional regulation
    • Communicate effectively with school-age children
    • Follow regular guidance and direction from school staff relative to managing student safety and behavior
    • Follow directives from and communicate regularly with the Transportation Coordinator
    • Work cooperatively with student vehicle drivers and/or bus drivers to best meet the needs of students being supervised
    • Take direction from school staff to support student safety; adjust support strategies based upon individual student needs
    • Demonstrate flexibility of assignment, within the parameters of weekly hours
    • As trained, adapt an approach to accommodate students with disabilities and/or emotional challenges
    • Complete assigned trainings as they pertain to supporting students with disabilities, including students with health-related issues
    • Follow directives from the STV or bus driver in order to comply with all rules and safety mandates for student transportation vehicles
    • Possess knowledge of District policies and regulations.
    • Perform other duties as assigned by the transportation coordinator and/or Director of Special Services
