Position Summary The Pallet Jack Operator is responsible for safely and efficiently moving raw materials, packaging materials, work-in-process inventory, and finished products throughout the facility. This position operates manual and electric pallet jacks to support production flow, staging, storage, and shipping activities while protecting product integrity and minimizing production delays. This role requires strong attention to detail, the ability to work in a fast-paced environment, and flexibility to work extended hours, including overtime and weekends, based on operational needs Key Responsibilities Conduct pre-shift inspections of manual and electric pallet jacks and report equipment concerns to appropriate personnel. Transport ingredients, packaging materials, and finished products to designated production, storage, or shipping areas. Stage materials accurately to support production schedules and maintain continuous product flow. Move finished goods from production areas to designated holding, cooler, freezer, or shipping locations. Verify product labels, quantities, and locations before transporting materials. Maintain organized staging areas and clear travel paths throughout the facility. Load, unload, and reposition pallets as directed by production or warehouse leadership. Monitor pallet condition and report damaged pallets or materials. Follow designated traffic patterns and pedestrian safety requirements while operating equipment. Communicate production, inventory, equipment, or safety concerns to leadership. Assist with inventory movement, product transfers, and other material handling activities as assigned. Supervisory Responsibilities None. This position has no direct reports. Qualifications Education/Experience High school diploma or GED preferred but not required. Previous pallet jack experience preferred. Experience in food manufacturing, warehouse, or distribution environment preferred. Skills & Competencies Ability to obtain internal certification to safely operate manual and electric pallet jacks. Ability to follow written and verbal instructions. Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced production environment. Ability to work cooperatively with supervisors and team members. Ability to recognize and report equipment or operational concerns promptly. Physical Requirements The ability to stand and walk for extended periods during the shift and regularly operate a manual or electric pallet jack to move product, materials, pallets, and supplies throughout the plant. Frequently push, pull, steer, and maneuver loaded pallets in wet, cold, and congested areas. Good balance, coordination, and awareness of surroundings to safely operate equipment around employees, forklifts, production lines, coolers, docks, and other moving equipment. Bending, reaching, twisting, lifting, and carrying materials as needed. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds regularly and handle repetitive movement throughout the shift. The ability to work in cold, wet, noisy, and slippery conditions. Work Environment Work is performed in a poultry processing facility that operates year-round and may run multiple shifts, including weekends and holidays. Employees work in production areas that may include: Cold, refrigerated environments (Fresh Processing) Warm or hot areas near ovens, fryers, or cooking equipment (Prepared Foods) Wet and humid conditions with floors that may be wet or slippery Moderate to high noise levels requiring hearing protection Exposure to raw meat products and strong food-related odors Exposure to common food allergens used in production, including but not limited to wheat, soy, milk, sesame and egg.
