The position plans and directs efficient packaging, warehousing and shipping of industrial and consumer sugar and co-products, meeting sales requirements and maintaining customer service standards. Oversight of the maintenance of packaging/warehousing equipment and systems is the responsibility of the incumbent. Additionally, the incumbent has overall responsibility for the food safety and quality assurance of sugar and by-products stored, packaged and shipped, as well as the safety of employees. The Packaging/Warehouse Superintendent is directly responsible for leading and promoting a positive workplace culture through ACSC values. This is accomplished by promoting collaboration and teamwork throughout the company by coaching and developing the team effectively, communicating expectations and providing ongoing feedback, and recognizing good work and holding team members accountable for their work product and actions. The Packaging/Warehouse Superintendent is directly responsible for work activities of all shifts which run throughout the year; there is no inter-campaign period. The incumbent has overall responsibility for the sugar warehouse, screening, silos, pellet loading, molasses loading and the Packaging/Warehouse maintenance shop. Driving packaging and bulk loading efficiencies to meet and exceed established goals through managing people, time and equipment is critical. Managing the packaging and warehouse areas requires compliance with ACS’s quality assurance policies, GMPs (Good Manufacturing Practices) and SQF (Safe Quality Food) regulations. Audits are regularly conducted, and noncompliant issues are addressed immediately with solutions developed and implemented by the Superintendent. The incumbent and staff are the last point of contact before product is shipped to our customers. Review and investigation of customer complaints as well as the implementation of corrective action is the responsibility of the Superintendent, working closely with the Factory Chemist in resolving these issues. The Packaging/Warehouse Superintendent maintains certification as the plant backup SQF Practitioner with the responsibility and authority to lead/assist with the development, implementation, review and maintenance of the Safe Quality Food System, Food Safety Fundamentals, Food Safety Plan and the Food Quality Plan. This includes responsibility to take appropriate action to ensure the integrity of the SQF System. This position communicates to relevant personnel all information essential to ensure the effective implementation and maintenance of the SQF System. Compliance with federal OSHA and state statutes in the packaging and warehousing areas is the responsibility of the incumbent, with particular emphasis on dust abatement. Dust emissions must meet EPA standards. The Packaging/Warehouse Superintendent is accountable for compliance with the NFPA (National Fire Protection Association) standards. Supervising, motivating and developing team behaviors, along with job training are important requirements of this position. The Superintendent is responsible for ensuring training compliance in all areas and identifies the training needs to be addressed by the Pack Tech Lead.
