Overnight Dispatcher
Scrap my Car Inc.Overnight Dispatcher – Friday to Sunday, 6:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. Overview Join our overnight team as a Dispatcher and play an essential role in coordinating towing, vehicle recovery, roadside assistance, and Ottawa Police Service calls throughout the Ottawa area. You will communicate with drivers, customers, police officers, roadside-assistance providers, and other partners to ensure calls are assigned and completed safely and efficiently. This position is ideal for someone who stays calm under pressure, communicates clearly, and can independently solve problems in a fast-paced environment. Duties Receive, assess, prioritize, and dispatch towing and roadside-assistance calls. Coordinate calls from the Ottawa Police Service and communicate professionally with police officers and emergency personnel. Assign calls to drivers based on location, equipment, availability, urgency, and operational requirements. Monitor active calls and driver progress from dispatch through completion. Provide drivers with accurate pickup, destination, vehicle, customer, and service information. Problem-solve delays, unavailable equipment, difficult recoveries, changing call details, and other unexpected situations. Communicate professionally with customers and provide clear updates regarding service times and call status. Maintain accurate call records, vehicle information, notes, payment details, and required documentation. Use dispatch, GPS, mapping, email, telephone, and towing-management systems. Coordinate with impound-yard staff and confirm vehicle movements, releases, and related information when required. Follow company procedures, privacy requirements, safety policies, and police-directed towing protocols. Escalate urgent, sensitive, or complex situations to management when necessary. Support drivers throughout their shifts and help keep overnight operations organized and moving efficiently. Qualifications and Experience Previous dispatch, call-centre, transportation, towing, roadside-assistance, or customer-service experience is preferred. Strong communication, organization, and multitasking skills. Excellent judgment and practical problem-solving abilities. Ability to remain calm, professional, and focused during emergencies or high-pressure situations. Comfortable working independently and making timely operational decisions. Strong attention to detail and the ability to maintain accurate records. Confident using computers, telephone systems, email, GPS, mapping tools, and dispatch software. Familiarity with Ottawa and the surrounding area is considered an asset. Knowledge of towing equipment, vehicle types, or automotive operations is considered an asset. Dependable, punctual, and comfortable working overnight shifts. Ability to meet any screening or documentation requirements associated with police-directed towing. Schedule, Compensation and Benefits Friday to Sunday, from 6:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. $26.50 per hour. Manulife group benefits available after three months of employment.
