Outside Sales Representative - Building Materials

Pay: $70,000 base salary plus commission Rice Lumber Company is looking for a motivated Outside Sales Representative to join our growing team. This role focuses on building strong relationships with local contractors and helping them successfully complete their projects by providing the right materials, advice, and support. If you have a background in construction, building materials, or contractor sales and enjoy working directly with customers in the field, we’d love to hear from you. What You’ll Do As an Outside Sales Representative, you’ll work closely with contractors to support their projects from planning through completion. Responsibilities include: Building and maintaining relationships with local contractors and builders Identifying new sales opportunities through job site visits, calls, and networking Preparing quotes, estimates, and material take-offs Assisting customers with product selection and project planning Coordinating with sales support and yard teams to ensure smooth order fulfillment Following up on sales leads and maintaining consistent customer communication Helping contractors stay on schedule by ensuring timely material deliveries Staying informed on product updates, market trends, and new building solutions Meeting or exceeding sales and profitability goals What We’re Looking For The ideal candidate brings a combination of industry knowledge, sales ability, and strong customer relationships. Qualifications include: Knowledge of building materials and construction practices required Prior sales or customer service experience required Experience estimating building materials or completing take-offs required Ability to read blueprints required Strong communication and relationship-building skills Basic math skills including geometry and fundamental arithmetic Self-motivated with strong organizational and time management abilities Comfortable prospecting and developing new business through calls and job site visits Benefits: At Rice Lumber Company, we value our employees and strive to create a positive work environment.
