Job Summary The Commercial Playground Sales Representative leads business development, consultative design, and account management for turnkey outdoor recreational spaces across Northern Virginia. In this role, you will guide client projects from initial concept through final installation—specifying commercial play structures, safety surfacing (poured-in-place, bonded rubber, synthetic turf), shade, site amenities, and outdoor fitness equipment. This role combines consultative field sales with technical site evaluation. You will work closely with community committees, landscape architects, procurement directors, and park planners to translate project visions and spatial constraints into safe, compliant, high-play-value designs. Navigating both competitive bidding and cooperative purchasing contracts (e.g., Sourcewell, Omnia) to secure high-margin turnkey contracts is key. Core Responsibilities Territory Development & Pipeline Management: Prospect, qualify, and close commercial projects across private and public sectors in Northern Virginia to meet annual gross-profit targets. Site Feasibility & Spatial Assessment: Conduct on-site evaluations, measuring footprints, slope/grade variances, drainage paths, ADA accessibility pathways, and utility clearances to establish baseline project parameters. Design Consultation & Budgeting: Collaborate with internal/manufacturer design teams to develop custom 2D/3D renderings, bill of materials (BOM), and equipment configurations tailored to client age groups, themes, and budgets. Procurement & Bid Navigation: Guide public entities through cooperative purchasing contracts to expedite procurement, while tracking local RFP/IFB notices and preparing formal bid submissions. Safety & Code Compliance: Ensure all proposed configurations strictly adhere to ASTM F1487 standards, CPSC guidelines, and ADA accessibility criteria. Pre-Construction Handoff: Coordinate with project managers and certified installation crews during pre-construction walk-throughs, ensuring seamless execution from order placement to final punch list. Required Qualifications & Skills B2B Field Sales Experience: 3+ years of proven outside sales experience in commercial recreation, site development, commercial building products, landscape construction, or capital equipment. Plan & Spec Literacy: Demonstrated ability to read architectural site plans, grading drawings, and civil construction documents. Procurement Knowledge: Familiarity with Northern Virginia public procurement processes, municipal budgeting cycles, and national purchasing cooperatives. Certifications: Certified Playground Safety Inspector (CPSI) credential strongly preferred (or required within 6–12 months of hire). Communication & Presentation: Polished interpersonal and presentation skills for pitching to city councils, school boards, park committees, and HOA boards. Mobility: Valid driver’s license with regular travel required across Northern Virginia job sites and client offices. Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) Annual Territory Gross Margin: Attainment of baseline closed gross margin quotas ($350k–$500k+). Pipeline Velocity: Monthly conversion rate of qualified site evaluations to active design presentations and formal proposals. Cooperative Contract Utilization: Proportion of public agency projects secured via pre-competed purchasing vehicles vs. open public bid.
