Operations Superintendent

Indorama Ventures Xylenes & PTA (IVXP), a petrochemicals manufacturing company, is looking for an Operations Superintendent to join our team in Decatur, AL. We are looking for a highly motivated professional with demonstrated capabilities and a strong desire and capacity to lead a team of 20-40 employees. A successful individual in this role must possess related work experience with the ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment. Responsibilities include risk management, compliance, delivered business results, team management in support of asset operation and maintenance, support and prioritization of reliability and engineering activities including improvement projects.

Education/Experience:

•    Four year degree in an engineering discipline with 8+ years’ experience in refining or chemical manufacturing or 15 years in refining or chemical manufacturing with supervisory experience.  

•    Proven record of sound judgment and effective decision making

•    Excellent interpersonal and public relations skills

•    Advanced understanding of manufacturing principles

•    Strong organizational skills

•    Strong negotiating skills

•    Knowledge of corporate policies

•    Understanding of financial principles

•    Advanced PC skills

Roles & Responsibilities 

1.    Manages risk and compliance for assigned area(s).

1. Serves as Risk Owner for process safety risks in assigned area.
   1. Ensures risks are identified, communicated, and escalated.
   2. Leads effort to manage and mitigate identified risks.
2. Responsible for all aspects of Health, Safety, Process Safety, and Environmental compliance for the assigned area.
3. Maintains the Control of Work Standard for the assigned process unit including approval of High Risk JSAs, GRAs, and safety waivers.
4. Responsible for the reporting of incidents such as leaks, SOLs/SDLs, etc.
5. Responsible for ensuring the MOC process is followed in the assigned area.
6. Responsible for ensuring Critical Equipment is maintained in the assigned area.
7. Responsible for auditing assigned area and as well as other operating areas.

2.    Owns the overall business results in assigned area(s).

1. Delivers production against plan, meeting both fixed and variable cost targets.
2. Develops short and long term operating strategies and tactics.
3. Develops and submits annual budget, assessing and analyzing options for cost performance improvements.
4. Reviews regular cost statements and explains variances.
5. Shares learnings and drives both assigned area and the broader site with a continuous improvement approach.
6. Ensures compliance with ISO procedures.
7. Communicates with other operating units to manage inter-related processes.
8. Serves as primary interface for third party suppliers and customers.

3.    Manages asset team in operation and maintenance of assigned area(s).

1. Energizes and motivates employees to perform at their best through clear definition of goals and positive reinforcement.
2. Provides oversight and support for team members in the delivery of their defined roles and responsibilities.
3. Provides development opportunities for team members.
4. Maintains visible and active field presence to promote safe and compliant work environment with access for direct and consistent communication.
5. Assures completions of annual performance evaluations.
6. Analyzes staffing levels and makes recommendations regarding additions and deletions.
7. Oversees personnel selection process.
8. Manages employee discipline when required.
9. Approves timecards for direct reports and approves overtime for assigned area.

4.    Supports and prioritizes maintenance, reliability and engineering activities.

1. Work across departments to build availability/reliability strategy for assigned area, underpinned by prioritized initiatives.
2. Develops timelines and priorities for unit outages.
3. Ensures appropriate unit support for unit outages – both salaried and hourly.
4. Manages shutdown activities.
5. Ensures efficiency of turnaround operations.

5.    Provides support for improvement projects.

1. Participates in annual project planning and prioritization, based on availability/reliability and optimization strategies.
2. Provides operational input and risk management needs for proposed projects.
3. Provides technical assistance regarding equipment selections, assigning dedicated resources when appropriate.

6.    Assumes responsibility for related duties as required or assigned.

3. Completes training as required.
4. Complies with all HSSE programs, policies and procedures
5. Performs special projects and miscellaneous duties as assigned

This position will have direct reports.
