Operations Specialist

This position will manage and maintain all operational logistics for Merchants Bank’s IRE platform. This platform covers credit and transactional execution of all affordable housing, conventional housing, and healthcare products that the bank holds. Core responsibilities will include oversight of processing and due diligence functions, ensure data integrity across reports and systems, and support execution for all transactions. The role would work closely with the underwriting, closing, and full deal team to ensure a seamless process for internal and external constituents and look to enhance existing procedures to manage growth efforts.  

• Become the IRE platform’s Subject Matter Expert for all processing and due diligence needs 
• Lead product support for new technology adoption and data quality control 
• Own processing requirements for letter of credit originations and renewals along with derivative executions 
• Manage vendor relationships core to the IRE business
• Review existing templates and enhance or create new templates to support group needs
• Guide the underwriting team to ensure seamless execution of third-party engagements, deal setup, and regulatory and compliance requirements
• Assist with audit needs including document management, initial findings review, and support response efforts
• Act as liaison to closing team to ensure all cross-group needs are met for timely transaction closings
• Coordinate timelines for construction reviews, sponsor credit reviews, and underwriting packages 
• Track pipeline for credit approvals and closing target migrations 
• Provide signatory support for deal closings 
• Develop strong relationships with internal partners to support the platform’s growth 

What we are looking for:

• Minimum of 7 years of mortgage banking experience in multifamily loan processing or paralegal work
• Working knowledge of affordable housing, conventional housing, and healthcare financing products 
• Bachelor’s degree (Business or Finance degree preferred)  
• Prior experience adopting new technologies and responsibility for key data inputs 
• Demonstrated track record of process ownership and improvements within the real estate industry 
• Possess the initiative to work in an independent and reliable manner, and ability to work closely with other internal departments to process a loan in a timely manner
• Extreme attention to detail and the ability to communicate effectively across a wide range of constituents 
• Project management and change management expertise 
• Teamwork and collaborative focus with a positive attitude focused on responsibility and integrity
