What will you do as an Operations Planner?

Vopak is seeking a new Operations Planner to coordinates with Operations/Customers/Customer Service, Maintenance, Engineering and other outside agencies and be Responsible for maintaining Moves in real-time.  You will plan and schedule all product movements as well as coordinate with maintenance and engineering to ensure the Terminal operates safely and at maximum efficiency.  The Operations Planner will be responsible for managing the energy optimization program, responsible for managing the Shift Coordinators as well as submitting reports to outside agencies.

What do we expect from you as an Operations Planner?

  • College degree (preferred) or minimum of 10 years equivalent work experience

  • High School Diploma or GED

  • Minimum of 5 – 10 years logistics, operations, and terminal experience; familiarity with chemical, oil or technical company, and terminal experience

  • Strong mathematical skills; ability to perform complex calculations including weights and volume

  • Ability to prioritize work; multi-tasking skills; good listener; proven ability to function as a team player

  • Excellent English communications skills, oral and written; experience working with diverse personalities; diplomatic skills

  • Experience working with customers, service orientation

  • Good computer skills including ability to use Microsoft Office Suite, various email and internet programs and applications, financial software, databases, order systems, and other programs used by the Company

  • Competency in performing data analysis and tracking key performance indicators (KPIs)

Nice to Have:

  • Experience working with Federal, state and local environmental regulations including RCRA

  • Knowledge of Company processes and infrastructure; ability to locate customer information including contracts; in-depth knowledge of terminals

  • Solid understanding of customer’s internal logistics processes; knowledge of customer products stored with Company; information on key success factors for customer

What does your day look like?

Your core responsibilities are:

  • Abides by all safety procedures and practices applicable to location and position; participates in appropriate safety training; demonstrates commitment to and support of SH&E principles and values; champions safety as necessary

  • Plan, schedule, and prioritize all movements for all terminal activity

  • Responsible for planning & logistics activities for the terminal, identifying potential issues, manpower availability and conflicting activities

  • Communicates planning between Operations, Customer Service, Maintenance, Engineering, third parties and customers

  • Track and analyze planned versus actual activities, develops and implements improvement actions. 

  • Communicates with ship and barge agents and owners for scheduling and updates; verifies orders with ships and barges; creates activity plan (incl. timing) and verifies execution.

  • Work closely with customer service to schedule all land activities.  

  • Notifies Operations of upcoming activity for preparation purposes

  • Manages New Product Services and commissioning of shore tanks/systems

  • Manages energy optimization program

  • Analyzes and resolves customer complaints, operational problems, (demurrage) bills and claims for customers

  • Utilizes the available resources effectively to achieve maximum productivity

  • Responsible for submitting energy and wharfage reports to outside agencies. 

  • Assist in billing and invoicing customers and 3rd parties

  • Contributes to projects from a planning perspective

  • Tracks and reviews Weekly Tank KPI’s for improvements and trends

  • Performs other duties assigned by management that fall within the generally expected scope of this position

Work Environment

This position requires an employee to be in an office environment as well as exposed to outside elements.  Most extreme elements are heat in the summer months of up to 104°F (40°C) and some exposure to cold of generally no less than 15°F (-10°C) in the winter months.  There will be exposure to various chemicals and compounds, including fumes and smells, some of them hazardous.  The employee may enter confined spaces and work in elevated environments.  Employees must be able to wear PPE required by the location.  General office noise may be experienced and louder sounds and vibrations when outside.  The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.  All environments are safe with appropriate PPE.

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to walk, sit, speak and hear.  The employee is required to stand, use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; the employee may be required, on occasion, to climb or balance, stoop, kneel, or crouch.  The employee may be required to climb ladders/storage tanks up to 50’ in height.  The employee may be required to enter confined spaces.  The employee may occasionally lift and/or move up to fifty (50) pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.  Employees may be required to travel by air, rail, bus, or car.
