Operations Manager: Supply Chain & Business Operations
ConfidentialOperations Manager, Supply Chain & Business Operations The Sprouting Company About the role The Sprouting Company makes countertop sprouters and premium sprouting seeds, sold direct to consumers and on Amazon, TikTok Shop and in Canada. Our operations were built for a much smaller company, and it shows. Primary mandate: Build and manage the operational infrastructure that lets the company scale efficiently. Supply chain is your first and biggest responsibility: hardware made overseas, seed sourced and packed domestically, all landing at our 3PL in Salt Lake City. You will inherit spreadsheets and email threads and turn them into a system that can handle growth. Supply chain is your primary responsibility, not the whole job. As it stabilizes, you'll take on broader business operations: processes, systems, vendors and the cross-functional projects that remove friction. This role is for a startup operator who likes owning problems end to end and is comfortable wearing more than one hat. Success in this role means the company can grow significantly without operational complexity growing at the same rate. What you'll own1. Supply chain (primary) Forecasting, purchasing, suppliers, manufacturing and inbound freight. Own the demand plan and inventory forecast across sprouters, seeds and accessories, including BFCM and promotional spikes. Run relationships with our contract manufacturers in China: purchase orders, production schedules, deposits and balance payments, quality control and packing lists. Manage seed sourcing, lot tracking and testing (germination and pathogen) with our growers, co-packer and labs, plus seed bag and packaging orders. Manage freight forwarders, customs and duties. Build the PO and payment calendar with finance so inventory purchases align with cash flow. Own COGS and landed cost per SKU, and flag margin risks early. Maintain backup suppliers and contingency plans for tariffs, port delays and quality failures. Ensure every critical purchase order is acknowledged and accepted by the supplier, with documented quantities and committed delivery dates. Escalate unconfirmed orders immediately. 2. Inventory Stock levels, replenishment, SKU transitions and inventory accuracy. Keep our forecasting tool (Prediko) accurate: open POs, lead times, safety stock and reorder points. Publish one trusted inventory number every week across our 3PL, overflow warehouse, Amazon FBA, TikTok Shop and Canada. Manage product transitions (e.g. V1 to V2 sprouters) so we sell down old stock cleanly and never stock out on the new one. 3. Logistics 3PL relationship, fulfillment performance and shipping costs. Own the relationship with our Salt Lake City 3PL: receiving, inventory accuracy, kitting, SLAs and invoices. Track every container from loading to Salt Lake City and maintain a live landed-date view the whole company trusts. Find savings on inbound and outbound shipping. 4. Business operations Process improvement, vendor management, systems and internal workflows. Find and fix the manual, spreadsheet-and-email workflows that slow the team down. Manage operational vendors and tools, and keep our systems communicating effectively. Document processes so critical knowledge doesn't live in one person's head. 5. Operational projects Cross-functional initiatives that improve efficiency and reduce operational friction. Take ownership of projects that cut across teams, from scoping through execution and completion. Your first 90 days Days 1–30 Learn every SKU, supplier and open PO.
