Freight Brokerage Operations Manager West Hazleton, PA | Full-Time | In-Office North Star Transport Group and part of R.C. Moore, Inc., is seeking an experienced Freight Brokerage Operations Manager to lead the day-to-day performance of our West Hazleton brokerage operation. This is a hands-on leadership position for someone with a strong freight brokerage background who is comfortable managing people, carrier procurement, service performance, and operational KPIs. The Freight Brokerage Operations Manager will report directly to the COO and will have responsibility for the performance and development of the brokerage team. We are looking for someone who can provide consistent leadership today while also helping us continue to develop and improve the operation over the long term. Responsibilities Lead and manage the West Hazleton freight brokerage team, including setting expectations, balancing workloads, coaching performance, and holding team members accountable to established KPIs. Remain involved in daily brokerage execution by sourcing and negotiating carrier capacity, covering freight, supporting difficult loads, and assisting with escalations and service issues. Manage carrier buy-rate performance using market benchmarks and identify opportunities to improve pricing, capacity, and profitability. Monitor brokerage volume, service performance, load closeout, carrier costs, and other operating metrics. Conduct regular one-on-one meetings and performance reviews and assist with hiring, onboarding, and training new brokers. Develop and maintain a strong, reliable carrier base using company-approved carrier sourcing, vetting, compliance, and fraud-prevention tools. Work closely with R.C. Moore planning and customer service teams on load coverage, customer commitments, and service recovery. Coordinate with our Track & Trace team in Maine to maintain consistent tracking, exception reporting, and customer communication standards. Identify opportunities to improve brokerage processes, procedures, reporting, and technology. Serve as the primary Turvo resource for the West Hazleton office and help drive effective use of TMS features, integrations, and automation. Prepare and review weekly, monthly, and quarterly reports covering broker performance, carrier buy rates, volume, and service results. Monitor freight market conditions and use market data to support carrier pricing and capacity decisions. Participate in the office's rotating after-hours and weekend coverage schedule. Qualifications Minimum of 5 years of freight brokerage experience. Demonstrated ability to independently broker freight and negotiate carrier rates in a high-volume environment. Strong understanding of carrier procurement, market pricing, brokerage margins, and service performance. Experience managing employees against defined performance expectations and KPIs. Strong analytical and reporting skills, including advanced Excel proficiency. Experience working with a modern transportation management system; Turvo experience is preferred. Working knowledge of carrier vetting, compliance, and freight fraud prevention. Strong communication, problem-solving, and decision-making skills. Ability to work effectively with teams across multiple locations and departments. Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Finance, or a related field preferred. Equivalent brokerage leadership experience will also be considered.
