Operations Manager – Drayage & Port Operations

About the Role Best Bay Trucking is seeking an experienced Operations Manager – Drayage & Port Operations to lead and grow our Savannah operation. We are looking for someone with strong drayage and intermodal experience, deep knowledge of the Savannah market, and established relationships within the local transportation community . The ideal candidate understands the day-to-day realities of port operations and knows how to build reliable capacity through owner-operators and carrier partnerships. This is a hands-on leadership position. We want someone who can manage daily operations while also helping us expand our presence and carrier network in the Savannah market. Key Responsibilities Lead day-to-day Savannah drayage and port operations Manage dispatch, container movement, appointments, empty returns, chassis coordination, and operational exceptions Maintain strong knowledge of Port of Savannah terminals, local yards, warehouses, rail facilities, and surrounding markets Recruit, develop, and maintain relationships with owner-operators and local/regional carriers Build a dependable carrier network capable of supporting both existing business and future growth Develop strong relationships throughout the Savannah transportation and logistics community Work closely with customers, drivers, owner-operators, carriers, dispatchers, and internal teams Monitor service levels, productivity, costs, and operational performance Resolve operational issues quickly and proactively Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, capacity, service, and profitability Support new customer implementations and volume increases Help develop scalable processes as the Savannah operation continues to grow Ensure operations are conducted safely and in compliance with company and regulatory requirements What We're Looking For 5+ years of drayage/intermodal transportation experience preferred Prior operations management or terminal leadership experience strongly preferred Strong working knowledge of the Savannah drayage market and Port of Savannah Existing relationships with owner-operators, trucking companies, carriers, terminals, warehouses, and other local industry partners are highly desirable Proven ability to recruit and retain owner-operators and develop carrier capacity Strong understanding of containerized freight, port operations, chassis, appointments, demurrage/detention, and empty-return processes Ability to manage a high-volume, fast-paced operation Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills Comfortable being hands-on and taking ownership when operational challenges arise Commercial mindset with an understanding of cost, productivity, customer service, and profitability The Person We're Looking For We're looking for more than someone who can manage today's loads.
