Position Overview


The Operations Manager is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of Benchmark Data Solutions’ shop and field functions across Western Canada. This role ensures that all equipment, tools, and systems are properly maintained, organized, and ready for deployment, while providing strong leadership and coordination for field technicians and shop staff.


This is a hands-on, highly technical, and detail-oriented position. The ideal candidate will blend operational leadership with mechanical and technical understanding, ensuring efficiency, accountability, and operational excellence across all locations. 



Key Responsibilities

Multi-Site Oversight

  • Oversee all Benchmark Data Solutions shops, including Spruce Grove, Grande Prairie, and any storage or satellite sites across the province.
  • Ensure consistent standards, processes, and safety practices are applied across all operational locations.
  • Coordinate logistics, equipment transfers, and inventory control between sites to support smooth field operations.


Equipment & Shop Management

  • Ensure all rigs and equipment packages are fully tested, operational, and placed in designated areas for quick access and field readiness.
  • Maintain organized, safe, and tidy shop environments, ensuring tools, cables, sensors, and supplies are properly labeled and stored.
  • Oversee testing and updating of all returned or used equipment to confirm readiness for redeployment.
  • Identify, prioritize, and escalate equipment repair or update needs in coordination with technical staff.
  • Work closely with shop support staff  to maintain cleanliness and operational efficiency.


Field Technician Coordination

  • Manage and schedule field technicians, ensuring all jobs are assigned efficiently and techs have the equipment, vehicles, and materials required.
  • Provide troubleshooting and technical support for field issues as they arise.
  • Lead (or co-lead) weekly operational meetings to review priorities, performance, and field readiness.
  • Work with the QA/QC Field Support & Training Technician to ensure technicians receive comprehensive shop and field training, including ongoing skills refreshers and safety compliance.


Inventory & Resource Management

  • Oversee and maintain accurate inventory of all equipment, parts, and consumables across all shop and storage sites.
  • Track usage and movement of all assets to support proper billing, accountability, and operational planning.
  • Partner with executive leadership to forecast needs, place orders, and manage vendor relationships.
  • Implement and enforce procedures for inventory control, loss prevention, and equipment tracking.


Operational Leadership & Efficiency

  • Ensure all operations are carried out safely, efficiently, and in compliance with company policies and OH&S standards.
  • Develop, communicate, and enforce shop procedures that promote safety, accountability, and consistency across all sites.
  • Identify process gaps or inefficiencies and recommend or implement improvements.
  • Support continuous learning and operational excellence across field and shop teams.
  • Travel occasionally to Grande Prairie and other Alberta locations to support operations, audits, or training.


Qualifications

  • 5+ years of progressive experience in operations, logistics, or technical field services (energy, data or communications, or industrial sectors preferred).
  • Strong technical and mechanical aptitude with the ability to troubleshoot, test, and verify field equipment performance.
  • Proven leadership experience managing multi-site operations and coordinating diverse field teams.
  • High attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and the ability to balance hands-on tasks with big-picture operational management.
  • Experience with inventory management, scheduling tools, or field operations systems considered an asset.
  • Excellent communication, teamwork, and problem-solving skills.
  • Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel within Alberta as required.
