Operations Manager

Job Overview As an Operations Manager, you’ll keep retail store operations moving smoothly while supporting employees and delivering a strong customer experience. You’ll coordinate staffing, sales, inventory, purchasing, payroll, and day-to-day store management. This role calls for hands-on leadership, sound judgment, and clear communication across the team. Duties Lead and supervise employees, including recruiting, interviewing, employee orientation, training and development, and shift management. Oversee retail sales and sales management; coach the team on customer service, merchandising, stocking, pricing, and retail store product knowledge. Manage inventory control, purchasing, and bookkeeping; monitor budgets, payroll, and point-of-sale (POS) activity. Support cashiering and cash handling, and use basic math and retail math to review transactions, sales, and operational needs. Requirements Experience in operations management, retail management, store management, or operational management; assistant manager experience and supervising experience are valuable. Retail industry sales team management experience is preferred. Demonstrated team management, leadership, and management skills are important. Knowledge of inventory management, POS systems, purchasing, budgeting, payroll, bookkeeping, sales, and cash handling is an asset. Strong managerial communication, communication skills, negotiation, organizational skills, and time management; phone etiquette and customer service skills are also useful. Basic math skills required. Multilingual or bilingual abilities, including the ability to support customers and employees in more than one language, are welcome. Position Summary The Operations Department Manager helps keep the store safe, clean, organized, and ready to serve customers. This hands-on leader coordinates daily operational work, supports receiving, merchandising, inventory, and special projects, and works alongside the Grocery Manager and Operations staff. The manager may also serve as Manager on Duty and helps maintain the store’s interior and exterior. Key Responsibilities Store Operations and Merchandising Check in incoming orders and coordinate receiving tasks with the appropriate department. Build displays and merchandise products; maintain organized, attractive presentations. Assist with inventory counts and rotate products to support freshness and proper stock rotation. Work alongside the Grocery Manager on day-to-day operational needs. Support store renovations, seasonal work, and other special projects. Team Leadership Assign and delegate work to Operations staff, communicate priorities, and follow up on completion. Provide dependable Manager on Duty coverage as scheduled and help address store needs during the shift. Set a positive example through teamwork, friendly service, and professional communication.
