JOB SUMMARY: As an Industrial Engineer III at DHL eCommerce, you will drive operational excellence across our supply chain by combining data-driven analysis with Gemba observations to identify and implement scalable solutions. In this role, you will develop labor models, conduct time studies, optimize sort plans and facility layouts, and leverage Python, SQL, data visualization, and mathematical optimization models to turn complex data into actionable insights. This position emphasizes building and deploying optimization models—rather than relying on manual planning—to deliver scalable solutions that balance cost, flexibility, and efficiency. The team is positioned to optimize the supply chain and deliver corporate-level impact. You will work closely with Operations, Transportation, Automation, and other cross-functional teams. Together, you will drive strategic improvements that enhance performance and support growth. ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: Primary responsibilities: Engineering Support: Provides strategic engineering expertise to optimize and design Pickup & Delivery (PUD), First Mile, Last Mile, and broader supply chain operations, driving cost, service, and network performance improvements. Pickup & Delivery Optimization: Analyze and improve PUD route structures, territory design, stop density, dispatch planning, route balancing, and delivery productivity. First & Last Mile Network Design: Develop scalable first mile and last-mile operating models, including depot, station, annex, and micro-fulfillment requirements. Capacity & Resource Planning: Create labor, fleet, and equipment models aligned with forecasted volumes and service commitments. Transportation & Routing Engineering: Evaluate route optimization technologies, routing algorithms, and operational processes. Facility & Process Design: Support station and depot design, dock operations, sortation flow, staging layouts, and dock-to-truck processes. Contingency & Peak Planning: Develop operational continuity plans, surge capacity models, and peak-season deployment strategies. Network Cost Modeling: Build and maintain cost models evaluating labor, transportation, fleet, facility, and operational trade-offs. Performance Analytics: Monitor cost per stop, stops per route, route adherence, pickup compliance, and vehicle utilization. Traditional Industrial Engineering Tasks: Engage in traditional Industrial Engineering tasks including staff planning models, productivity improvement, work methods and measurement standards, best practice identification, standardized process maintenance and procedure documentation, sort plan optimization. Conducts time-studies, identification and description of process deviations, identification and implementation of best practices Ergonomics & Safety: Evaluate and improve workstation and material handling ergonomics to reduce risk of injury, enhance employee safety, and support productivity through data-driven assessments and best practices.
