Ocean Import Specialist (Korean/English Bilingual)
ConfidentialOverview We’re looking for an Ocean Import Specialist fluent in Korean and English to manage ocean import shipments from origin to final delivery, including inland rail moves into Detroit. When a vessel rolls, a rail move slips, or a customs hold comes up, you’ll be the one who explains the situation clearly in Korean, then fixes it with carriers, railroads, terminals, and our customs broker in English. Logistics experience is a plus but not required. We’ll train the right person on ocean import operations. We’re a small team, so your work is visible and you’ll see the direct results of keeping freight moving. Responsibilities Manage ocean import shipments end to end: work daily pre-alerts from Korea origin offices, check documents before arrival, track vessels and containers, and keep milestones current in our system. Review cargo documents (bills of lading, commercial invoices, packing lists) and send arrival notices and delivery orders. Coordinate customs clearance with our customs broker, including ISF and entry filings, and follow up until cargo is released. Arrange inland rail moves and final delivery with drayage and transportation providers, and watch free time to avoid demurrage, detention, and storage charges. Communicate with Korea origin offices in Korean, and with U.S. carriers, railroads, terminals, and vendors in English. Resolve shipment and documentation problems early, and keep all parties informed until they’re fixed. Keep account profiles and quotes current, prepare accurate invoices, and review vendor bills. Prepare monthly delivery and KPI reports for management. Requirements Fluent in Korean and English, spoken and written, at a business level Comfortable with Excel and email; willing to learn new systems Strong attention to detail and able to manage several tasks at once Clear, prompt communication by phone and email Authorized to work in the United States Preferred Experience in ocean import, freight forwarding, or transportation operations Familiarity with arrival notices, delivery orders, ISF, demurrage/detention, or HS codes Experience at a Korean forwarder, 3PL, or manufacturer working with Korea origin offices Automotive supply chain experience Experience with inland rail moves Experience with a freight forwarding or transportation management system Bachelor’s degree in logistics, supply chain management, or a related field Benefits: 401(k) Dental insurance Health insurance Paid time off Vision insurance Language: Korean (Required) English (Required) Work Location: In person
