About the Role We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Ocean Freight Operations Coordinator to join our team in West Bloomfield Township, Michigan. This position focuses primarily on coordinating international ocean import shipments from origin through final delivery, working closely with customers, ocean carriers, overseas agents, customs brokers, trucking companies, warehouses, and internal teams. The ideal candidate is organized, dependable, and comfortable managing multiple shipments in a fast-paced environment. Key Responsibilities Coordinate ocean freight shipments, primarily imports, from origin through final delivery. Monitor vessel schedules, customs clearance, container availability, and delivery milestones. Coordinate with ocean carriers, terminals, customs brokers, truckers, warehouses, and overseas agents. Arrange port pickups, rail movements, transloading, and final-mile deliveries as needed. Prepare and review shipping documents, including bills of lading, arrival notices, and delivery orders. Monitor container free time, demurrage, detention, storage, and empty container returns. Provide customers with timely shipment updates and proactively communicate potential delays. Identify and resolve operational issues, documentation discrepancies, and delivery challenges. Maintain accurate shipment records in the company's logistics management system. Review carrier and vendor charges for accuracy and support the invoicing process. Qualifications Previous experience in ocean freight operations, freight forwarding, NVOCC operations, or international logistics preferred. Understanding of ocean freight processes, shipping documentation, and customs clearance procedures. Strong organizational, multitasking, and problem-solving skills. Excellent written and verbal communication skills with a customer-focused approach. Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook and Excel. Experience with logistics software such as Magaya, CargoWise, or similar platforms preferred. Spanish language proficiency is a plus , particularly for communication with partners in Mexico and Latin America. Ability to work independently and manage multiple shipments and deadlines. Education in logistics, supply chain management, or a related field preferred; equivalent experience considered.
