We are looking for an experienced and motivated Non-Perishable/Perishable Buyer to join our team. This individual will play an important role in purchasing, supplier negotiations, product availability, and inventory management to support our stores and business objectives. Job Summary The Non-Perishable/Perishable Buyer is responsible for sourcing, purchasing, planning, and negotiating the procurement of perishable and non-perishable grocery products for Lola’s Market locations. This position works closely with suppliers, Store Managers, Operations, Receiving, Accounting, and other departments to ensure product availability, competitive pricing, consistent quality, and efficient inventory management. The ideal candidate has strong purchasing and negotiation skills, knowledge of the Hispanic grocery industry, and the ability to identify opportunities to improve purchasing efficiency and profitability. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Purchasing and Procurement Manage purchasing activities for assigned perishable and non-perishable grocery categories. Prepare, process, and monitor purchase orders based on store needs, inventory levels, sales trends, and product demand. Coordinate ordering schedules and deliveries to maintain appropriate product availability across all locations. Identify and evaluate new suppliers and alternative sources of supply. Monitor inventory levels to minimize shortages, overstock, waste, and unnecessary purchasing costs. Vendor Relations and Negotiations Develop and maintain strong relationships with suppliers and vendors. Negotiate purchase prices, quantities, delivery schedules, promotional opportunities, and other purchasing terms. Obtain and compare supplier quotes to identify competitive pricing and purchasing opportunities. Evaluate vendors based on product quality, pricing, reliability, service, and delivery performance. Resolve issues involving invoices, pricing discrepancies, product quality, shortages, substitutions, and delivery delays. Product Selection and Market Analysis Evaluate products based on customer demand, quality, pricing, and relevance to Lola’s Market customers. Maintain knowledge of the Hispanic grocery industry, including products, brands, suppliers, and market trends. Research new products and identify opportunities to improve product selection and customer satisfaction. Monitor market conditions and competitive pricing to support informed purchasing decisions. Pricing and Profitability Analyze product costs, sales volume, margins, and purchasing trends. Provide product cost and pricing information to management and store teams. Recommend pricing adjustments based on product costs, market conditions, and profitability goals. Coordinate with Marketing and Operations regarding promotions, seasonal products, and special purchasing opportunities. Identify opportunities to reduce costs while maintaining product quality and availability. Inventory and Supply Chain Management Monitor supplier performance and ensure products meet established quality and delivery requirements. Coordinate with Receiving and Store Managers to resolve receiving discrepancies, damaged merchandise, and product returns. Analyze purchasing data and inventory trends to improve efficiency. Work with suppliers to improve lead times and product availability. Anticipate supply chain challenges and develop alternative purchasing solutions. Communication and Teamwork Collaborate with Store Managers, Operations, Receiving, Accounting, Marketing, and other departments.
