Night Expeditor
Queens District Attorney's OfficeThe Intake and Assessment Bureau is seeking an applicant for a Night Expeditor. The Intake and Assessments Bureau is responsible for assessing and analyzing charges at the arrest stage of a criminal prosecution. The Expeditor will be responsible for a variety of duties including, but not limited to: Monitoring daily productivity of staff and flow of cases to arraignments Running the Arrest to Arraignment Monitor continuously during every shift Preparing cases for assignment to ADAs and TPAs Reviewing and printing rap sheets Printing open case “Q” sheets Checking all defendants by name and ensuring all cases are assigned to one ADA or TPA Confirming with police officers that all necessary case paperwork has been received, including witness statements, body worn cameras, video surveillance etc., prior to assignment to ADA or TPA Contacting police officers regarding cases that require additional paperwork or evidence in order to move forward with case processing Using agency and NYPD applications to notify law enforcement officers to appear at our offices. Identifying juveniles, adolescents and co-defendants in the arrest to arraignment monitor Answering phones and providing administrative support, as required Scheduling Desk Appearance Tickets (DATs) and monitoring officers’ compliance with DAT appointments Monitoring all arrests including hospital cases Preparing misdemeanor folders and printing all related discovery and QDA paperwork Ensuring receipt of out of county affidavits for CPL 510.10(4)(t) applications Pushing cases to e-arraignments Checking for Fugitive Offender Act (FOA) and bench warrants Preparing affidavits and folders for fugitive, bail jumping and other cases as needed Notifying the Section Chief of the Felony Conferencing Bureau on all FOA cases Working with Grand Jury Bureau staff to ensure that duplicate folders are created for hospitalized defendants who are not ready to be arraigned Assisting with other related duties, as required Preferred Education and Qualification Requirements: Bachelor’s degree preferred in Criminal Justice, Paralegal Studies or related area or equivalent education and/or experience. All candidates must have at least a high school diploma or its educational equivalent. The candidate must have excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate with all levels of staff, as well as strong attention to detail and a proactive approach, including strong follow-up skills, accuracy, and the ability to meet deadlines. Adherence to strict requirements regarding legal records management, data protection, and privacy/confidentiality is imperative. Preferred Skills: Candidates with at least three (3) years of experience as a Trial Preparation Assistant or Paralegal with a District Attorney Office. Candidates with at least two (2) years of experience in the Intake Bureau with a District Attorney Office. Applicant Information: Applicants must be willing to work an evening schedule (4pm – 12am), weekends, and holidays. Salary Range: $65,000-$70,000 55a Program This position is also open to qualified persons with a disability who are eligible for the 55-a Program.
