MRO Buyer

Our client, an established automotive supplier in the Spartanburg, SC area, is seeking an MRO Purchasing Buyer to support the sourcing and procurement of maintenance, repair, and operations (MRO) supplies, spare parts, equipment, indirect materials, and services.This position will work closely with Maintenance, Production, Engineering, and other internal teams to ensure critical materials are available when needed while controlling costs and maintaining appropriate inventory levels.The ideal candidate has.hands-on MRO purchasing experience within a manufacturing or industrial environment, with particular strength in supplier negotiation, vendor management, inventory planning, and ERP-driven purchasing.Key ResponsibilitiesSource and purchase MRO supplies, spare parts, tools, consumables, equipment, indirect materials, and maintenance servicesProcess purchasing requisitions and create and manage purchase ordersReview PO acknowledgements and track orders through delivery and receiptExpedite critical orders to prevent production downtime and operational interruptionsNegotiate supplier pricing, payment terms, lead times, contracts, and other commercial conditionsAnalyze supplier quotes and identify opportunities for cost savings and alternative sourcingDevelop and maintain strong supplier relationships and identify and qualify new vendorsMonitor supplier performance related to delivery, quality, responsiveness, and costPartner with Maintenance, Production, and Engineering to understand upcoming MRO requirements and purchasing prioritiesSupport inventory planning, including min/max levels, stock and non-stock items, and reduction of excess or obsolete inventorySupport Kanban, vendor-managed inventory, or similar inventory optimization programsUtilize ERP/MRP systems for purchasing, planning, order management, and inventory trackingResolve delivery, invoice, pricing, and payment discrepancies with suppliers and internal departmentsProvide quotes, sourcing options, and recommendations for internal MRO equipment and service requestsSupport continuous improvement and cost-reduction initiatives within the purchasing functionAssist with purchasing-related administrative responsibilities as neededQualifications3–7+ years of purchasing or procurement experience, preferably with a strong focus on MRO purchasingExperience working within a manufacturing, industrial, or maintenance-intensive environmentBachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Engineering, Business Administration, or a related field preferred; equivalent experience consideredProven experience negotiating supplier pricing, terms, and agreementsExperience managing supplier relationships, evaluating vendors, and monitoring supplier performanceHands-on experience with inventory planning, demand planning, or MRP/ERP-based procurementExperience using ERP systems such as SAP, Epicor, Oracle, or similarStrong analytical, organizational, and communication skillsStrong Excel skills requiredAbility to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced manufacturing environmentWillingness to work hands-on with materials and parts when needed, including physically moving productPreferredExperienceProcurement or supply chain certification such as CPSM, CPIM, or CSCPExperience with Lean manufacturing or continuous improvement initiativesExperience implementing Kanban, vendor-managed inventory, or other inventory optimization programsDemonstrated MRO cost-reduction or strategic sourcing experienceWhy Join?Join an established manufacturing operation where purchasing has a direct impact on production performanceWork closely with Maintenance, Engineering, Production, and key suppliersTake ownership of MRO sourcing, supplier relationships, negotiation, and inventory planningOpportunity to identify and implement measurable cost-saving and process-improvement initiativesHands-on role with visibility across plant operations
