Overview: Founded in 2009, Humble Design changes lives and communities by furnishing the homes of individuals, families, and veterans emerging from homelessness. Currently, many that secure permanent housing arrive to an empty space with their belongings in a bag and an air mattress for the hard floor. As a result, many return to homelessness within a few years. Humble Design stops the continuum of homelessness by furnishing homes with donated furniture and personalized design. The Team: We, the Chicago team and national Humble Design community, are connectors and doers on a mission to help end the revolving door of homelessness. The Role: The Mover will be a dedicated member of the team responsible for ensuring end-to-end excellence and efficiency in delivery of mission through positive and professional client interaction, volunteer support, internal team communications and the ability to work collaboratively with a diverse group. This person needs to be flexible and willing to jump in where needed, skilled at time management and prioritization, and able to communicate effectively with clients, staff and volunteers. Overall duties include but are not limited to loading and unloading carts and vehicles, moving in, communicating professionally with clients, volunteers and staff and installing furnishings at Deco Days. The ideal candidate must have experience as a professional mover, hold a valid Illinois driver’s license, be a proficient driver with experience driving transport vans and moving trucks, be able to operate with integrity, and demonstrate excellent communication and interpersonal skills. They will also have a passion for our mission with a strong desire to help those in Chicago emerging from homelessness. Duties and Responsibilities: This position works up to approximately 24-28 per week (Mon-Friday), typically starting at 8:30am. Duties include but are not limited to the following: Moving and Deco Day Support ▪ Load carts and vehicles in preparation for client decos. ▪ Loads and unloads vehicles by hand or by use of team lift, hand truck or dolly. ▪ Move furnishings in and out as needed and install furnishings during deco days, including hanging framed artwork, assembling beds and/or confirming they were assembled securely by the team. Warehouse support ▪ When not at a deco, assist warehouse manager onsite, as directed, including, but not limited to: ○ Help to maintain an organized, clean, and safe warehouse environment. ○ Receive, move, and organize donated furnishings from drop offs and pickups. ○ Help to track inventory in the warehouse and highlighting inventory risks in ample time to enact Wishlist Wednesday, etc. requests. ○ Build furniture, as directed, in the warehouse. ○ Pull selected furniture and move to designated staging area. ○ Clear trash from the warehouse and office area twice weekly. ○ Keep the dock clean, clear, and organized. ○ Load and distribute recycled items for community groups. Additional Responsibilities ▪ Support clients, volunteers, designers and other team members both in the warehouse and on-site. ▪ Work with other employees, volunteers, functional counterparts and any hired contractors as directed to ensure obligations on are met. ▪ Other duties as assigned.
