Mobile Reefer Technician

Position Summary FLSS is hiring a Mobile Reefer Technician to perform preventive maintenance, diagnostics, refrigeration repair, and warranty work on trailer refrigeration units in the field, out of a fully equipped FLSS service truck. You'll keep Carrier Transicold and Thermo King units holding temp, document every job, and get trailers back in service legal and safe to operate. We don't run a shop — we bring the shop to the customer. Our technicians work out of FLSS service trucks at customer yards, drop lots, and distribution centers for leasing companies, carriers, and large fleets across the country. Key Responsibilities Reefer PM and diagnostics Perform scheduled PMs on trailer refrigeration units, including oil and filter changes, belts, fuel and air filters, coolant, and full operational checks Run pre-trip inspections (PTI) and verify setpoint, defrost cycles, and temperature control under load Diagnose unit faults using microprocessor controllers and service software (Thermo King WinTrac, Carrier ReeferManager/ServiceManager, or equivalent) Download and review temperature and event logs when requested by the customer Refrigeration and engine repair Repair refrigeration systems: leak detection, refrigerant recovery, evacuation, and charging; compressors, expansion valves, condensers, evaporators, and controls Repair and service small reefer diesel engines (Yanmar, Kubota, and similar): starting, charging, fuel, cooling, and glow plug systems Troubleshoot and repair unit electrical systems, sensors, wiring harnesses, and controller components Handle and log all refrigerant per EPA Section 608 rules Warranty work Perform warranty repairs to Carrier Transicold and Thermo King standards Document the 3 C's on every warranty job — Complaint, Cause, Correction — with photos, fault codes, unit hours, and part numbers Follow warranty pre-authorization and parts-return procedures so claims are paid, not rejected Trailer and telematics work (as assigned) Perform inspections and repairs on trailer systems, including lights, air brakes, suspension, and doors, plus DOT/FMCSA annual inspections Install, troubleshoot, and verify reefer telematics devices and temperature sensors Documentation and customer service Clock time accurately in Connecteam and complete work orders in Fullbay with clear notes, photos, and parts used Communicate findings and repair estimates to the Regional Maintenance Manager and customers for approval before work begins Keep the service truck stocked, clean, organized, and in safe operating condition Maintain a professional, safe presence on customer property Required Qualifications EPA Section 608 certification, Type II or Universal 2+ years of hands-on experience servicing and repairing Carrier Transicold and/or Thermo King trailer reefer units Solid understanding of the refrigeration cycle, refrigerant recovery, evacuation, and charging procedures Able to diagnose using unit controllers, fault codes, and laptop-based service software Working knowledge of small diesel engines and 12V electrical systems Valid driver's license with a clean driving record that meets FLSS insurance requirements Own a complete set of professional hand tools Able to work independently with minimal supervision in the field Able to pass a pre-employment drug screen Preferred Qualifications Carrier Transicold or Thermo King factory training or dealer experience Experience with Carrier Vector/X4 and Thermo King Precedent/Advancer platforms CDL Class A (no air brake restriction) to repo…
