MES Engineer

Position Summary: To design, implement, and maintain the software and hardware interfaces that track and document the transformation of raw materials into finished goods. Main Duties & Responsibilities: System Design & Implementation: Configure MES software modules to match physical production lines, including work centers, routing, and material flow. PLC/SCADA Integration: Establish communication between shop-floor hardware (PLCs, sensors, torque tools) and the MES database using protocols like OPC-UA or MQTT. Digital Transformation: Replace paper-based records with Electronic Device History Records (eDHR) and digital work instructions. Production Support: Provide high-level troubleshooting for system outages that could halt production lines (Level 2/3 support). Quality & Traceability: Implement automated gates to ensure parts meet specifications before moving to the next station and maintain "birth certificates" for every unit produced. Data Visualization: Build real-time dashboards for OEE (Overall Equipment Effectiveness), downtime tracking, and scrap analysis. Responsible for the development and maintenance of MES and Warehouse Management Systems; Responsible for the development and maintenance of vision system Software Platforms: Proficiency in major MES suites (e.g., Siemens Opcenter/ Camstar, Rockwell FactoryTalk, Plex, Ignition, or SAP ME/MII). Advanced SQL skills are mandatory (querying, stored procedures, and database schema design in MSSQL or Oracle). Understanding of Ethernet/IP, Modbus, and how to bridge IT (Information Technology) with OT (Operational Technology). Ability to script in Python, C#, .NET, or Java for custom system logic or reporting tools. Familiar with Computer Vision (CV) algorithms and model post-training optimization. Familiarity with ISA-95 (the international standard for the integration of enterprise and control systems). Deep understanding of Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, and Poka-Yoke (Error Proofing) to ensure the system actually improves efficiency. Knowledge of ISO 9001 or IATF 16949 standards, specifically regarding data integrity and traceability. Understanding how MES interacts with systems like SAP or Oracle NetSuite preferred Education & Experience: Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, or closely related field. Hands-on experience with Allen-Bradley or Siemens PLCs and HMI design preferred Experience leading large-scale system rollouts across multiple manufacturing sites is preferred. Physical Requirements: Positions at JJENA may require the following: alternating between sitting and standing; climbing stairs, ladders, scaffolding or ramps; crouching/stooping; driving; near/far visual acuity; fine motor manipulation; gross motor manipulation; hearing; keyboarding; kneeling; lifting/carrying; moving objects; peripheral visual acuity; pushing or pulling; reaching overhead or below; repetitive task performance; sitting; speaking; standing; using foot or leg controls; walking. Environmental Requirements Our manufacturing facility is a climate-controlled environment. There is no long-term exposure to dangerously loud noise or extreme temperatures. Cognitive Requirements Cognitive abilities include executing tasks independently; learning and/or memorizing tasks; maintaining concentration/focus on tasks; working with/in close proximity to, other people. Attendance Requirements All hourly team members are expected to report to work and be ready to work at their scheduled start time. It is required that they adhere to and follow the attendance policy(ies). All salaried team members are expected to perform their duties/responsibilities in a timely manner. Although they may not have set schedules, they are expected to either be at work on a schedule agreed upon by their manager or be available via phone/text/Teams if working remotely.
