Membership Operations Specialist 

Gaithersburg, MD 

 

The Society of Fire Protection Engineers is seeking a Membership Operations Specialist to manage and optimize SFPE’s database-centered operations. This essential role will focus on building and maintaining relationships with members, chapters, and industry partners and acts as the primary liaison and problem-solver for the SFPE when it comes to our Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system, MemberSuite.

  • Salary range of $55,000-$65,000

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant discipline.   

  • 3-5 years of database experience, membership relations, customer service, fundraising, relationship management, or equivalent combination. 

  • Proficiency in MS Office 365 is required.  

  • Experience using CRM or Association Management Software (AMS) databases is required. 

  • Experience with database improvements, data management and reporting skills. 

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and prior experience working with engineers or other STEM professionals a plus. 

  • Experience working in a small, high-energy organization; a team player willing to take on new challenges with demonstrated ability to partner with staff and member volunteers. 

  • Ability to travel to SFPE’s Annual Conference 

  • Ability to work onsite in Gaithersburg, MD at least 1 day per week. 

Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the primary liaison for SFPE and staff to our CRM provider, MemberSuite.  

  • Identify and resolve database issues and develop solutions by working with MemberSuite support. 

  • Serve as initial point of contact for membership needs, providing excellent customer service via email and telephone. 

  • Oversee administration of member renewal invoicing processes.  

  • Create reports from the database to support financial and accounting review. 

  • Partner with the Senior Accountant/Assistant Controller to review and improve database-related financial processes. 

  • Oversee member and partner data integrity, enhancing database structure and categorization as needed. 

  • Respond to membership inquiries as the initial point of contact via telephone, email and social media. 

  • Oversee invoicing administration including records management, printing, folding, stuffing, posting and mailing from the Gaithersburg, MD office. 

  • Document all donations and partnership revenue with Partnership & Sales Manager. 

 

The Society of Fire Protection Engineers (SFPE) has been a prominent professional organization since its establishment in 1950 and its incorporation as a nonprofit organization in 1971. As a leading global society, it represents professionals working in the field of fire protection and fire safety engineering. SFPE has over 5,400 members and over 107 chapters worldwide, including more than 29 student chapters.
