This is a Direct Hire Solicitation Learn more about this agency This job is open to The public U.S. Citizens, Nationals or those who owe allegiance to the U.S. Duties Decontaminate, clean, and prepare surgical instruments and medical equipment. Assemble and package surgical instruments based on standard operating procedures. Operate and monitor sterilization equipment. Maintain established supply levels and rotation of supplies. Perform testing on equipment for the cleaning and sterilization of surgical instruments. Utilize the appropriate sterilization method based upon manufacture requirements and recommendations. Requirements Conditions of employment Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation. This position is required to be screened for and obtain necessary immunizations/vaccinations (hepatitis, influenza, etc.), unless exempted by a licensed physician. This position is required to work uncommon tours of duty hours such as, on-call, working either fixed or rotating shifts, evenings, weekends and/or holidays. This position is designated “Mission Essential”. In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations (natural or man-made disaster) the incumbent may be required to report to work or remain to support mission operations. This position requires a pre-employment physical annually and thereafter. This position is designated Tier 3, Non-Critical Sensitive, Moderate Risk and requires the incumbent to obtain and maintain a Secret Security Clearance Level as a condition of employment. This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination and is subject to annual seasonal influenza vaccinations. Heavy lifting up to 50lbs is required. This position is a Testing Designated Position (TDP) subject to a pre-employment drug screening, and random testing thereafter, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident. Appointment to this position is subject to a one-year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315. Basic Requirements for Medical Supply Technician (Sterile Processing): Specialized Experience : One year of specialized experience which includes sterilizing medical supplies and equipment for use in a hospital or operating rooms, troubleshooting sterilization equipment, inspecting medical supplies for defects, and maintaining medical instrument inventory to ensure daily operations. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05). Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone-no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
