Mechanical Engineer | Industrial & Manufacturing Projects About the Opportunity DSC is looking for a motivated, detail-oriented Mechanical Engineer to join our engineering team. You will support a variety of mechanical engineering projects for manufacturing and industrial facilities, working alongside experienced engineers, designers, clients, contractors, and other technical disciplines. Projects may include industrial equipment and machinery, piping and plant utilities, mechanical systems, equipment layouts, facility upgrades, and new installations. Depending on your experience, you will contribute to projects from initial site investigations and concept development through detailed design, fabrication, installation, and commissioning. We are looking for someone with strong mechanical engineering fundamentals, practical problem-solving skills, and a genuine interest in understanding how industrial equipment and systems operate. Key ResponsibilitiesMechanical Design & Engineering Design and support industrial machinery, mechanical equipment, piping, utilities, and facility systems. Apply mechanical engineering principles involving statics, dynamics, mechanics of materials, machine design, material selection, and mechanical connections. Perform engineering calculations involving loads, stresses, deflection, fasteners, vibration, thermal effects, fluid flow, pressure loss, and equipment sizing. Develop equipment layouts, mechanical assemblies, piping plans, and installation details. Work with conveyors, automated equipment, material-handling systems, pumps, fans, compressors, motors, gearboxes, and power-transmission systems. Evaluate plant mechanical systems, including compressed air, process and cooling water, ventilation, exhaust, dust collection, hydraulics, pneumatics, and industrial utilities. Develop and review P&IDs, piping layouts, equipment connections, and utility distribution requirements. Design with consideration for fabrication, installation, constructability, equipment access, maintenance, safety, and reliability. Industrial Facilities, Safety & Field Engineering Conduct site investigations, collect field measurements, document existing conditions, and verify installations against engineering drawings. Support equipment installations, relocations, facility modifications, and integration with existing infrastructure. Use 3D models, scanning data, and point clouds to evaluate layouts, clearances, and potential design conflicts. Identify mechanical hazards, equipment guarding requirements, access concerns, and practical safety improvements. Apply relevant codes and standards, including the Ontario Building Code, Ontario Occupational Health and Safety requirements, applicable CSA, ASME, NFPA, and TSSA requirements. Support mechanical aspects of Pre-Start Health and Safety Reviews (PSRs), depending on qualifications and assigned responsibilities. Work with contractors, trades, operators, and maintenance personnel to resolve field issues and support installation, startup, and commissioning. Engineering Documentation & Project Support Prepare and review 2D drawings, 3D models, engineering calculations, technical reports, specifications, and design documentation. Review vendor drawings, equipment specifications, technical submissions, and equipment utility requirements. Support equipment procurement, RFQs, technical bid evaluations, and vendor coordination. Assist with project scopes, engineering estimates, schedules, design reviews, RFIs, and construction support. Coordinate mechanical designs with electrical, structural, industrial, controls, architectural, and other disciplines. Manage assigned tasks, drawing revisions, technical documentation, and project deadlines. Qualifications & Technical Skills Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related engineering discipline. Relevant experience in mechanical design, industrial equipment, manufacturing facilities, piping, utilities, or equipment integration. Strong …
