With headquarters in Elmira, Ontario, Advance Millwrights has built a reputation for reliable service, quality workmanship, and innovative solutions. As a member of the Tri-Mach Group family of brands, we collectively deliver integrated capabilities across design, fabrication, installation, and maintenance for turnkey project execution for the essential industries that feed and sustain the world. We are seeking a skilled and experienced Mechanical Designer to join our dynamic team. The Mechanical Designer is responsible for designing various mechanical devices that will be vital in developing machinery and/or large structures, working closely with our team of Project Managers, Shop Personnel to ensure project success. We are looking to add someone to our team who is a lateral thinker, able to navigate complexity and embrace ambiguity. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Design & Engineering Responsibilities Design and develop custom material handling, conveying, sorting, and processing systems for agricultural, industrial, and recycling applications, including conveyors, elevators, distributors, diverters, bins, access platforms, towers, bridges, structural assemblies, and other custom equipment. Develop conceptual equipment layouts, process-flow designs, and complete production or material-handling line layouts, considering equipment functionality, material flow, accessibility, maintainability, safety, and site constraints. Translate customer requirements, site conditions, project specifications, and operational needs into practical end-to-end mechanical design solutions, integrating multiple pieces of equipment into a coordinated system. Work closely with Project Managers, Sales, Engineering, Manufacturing, and other internal stakeholders to ensure designs accurately reflect the approved scope of work, customer requirements, project specifications, budget considerations, and installation requirements. Participate in all stages of the mechanical design process, from initial concepts and feasibility layouts through approval drawings, detailed design, fabrication drawings, installation drawings, and final documentation. Create detailed 3D models, assemblies, and 2D manufacturing/shop drawing packages using SolidWorks and AutoCAD/Autodesk technologies, ensuring drawings contain the dimensions, tolerances, materials, fabrication details, and other information required for manufacturing and installation. Perform SolidWorks simulations and design analysis, where applicable, to evaluate equipment performance, mechanical movement, fit, interference, loading, and other design considerations prior to fabrication. Apply field knowledge and practical design principles when developing solutions for brownfield and existing-facility environments, accounting for existing equipment, structures, building constraints, access requirements, utilities, and installation considerations. Design custom equipment and mechanical assemblies with consideration for manufacturability, fabrication methods, installation, serviceability, equipment access, reliability, and lifecycle requirements. Project & Cross-Functional Support Collaborate with Sales during the proposal and concept development stages to create preliminary layouts, equipment concepts, system configurations, and technical scopes that support customer quotations and project development. Create and maintain accurate Bills of Materials (BOMs) within the ERP system to support procurement, manufacturing, assembly, and project execution. Work collaboratively with Purchasing and suppliers to identify and source appropriate materials, components, and fabricated parts, including components required for prototypes, custom equipment, and project-specific applications. Provide technical support to Manufacturing and Assembly throughout fabrication and equipment build, responding to design que…
