ME - Power Electronics Design
Mach10 SolutionsAbout the Role Our client, a venture-backed energy storage firm, is currently developing grid-scale battery solutions. As they transition from initial customer deployments to large-scale manufacturing, they are seeking mechanical engineers to focus on power path design and production readiness for high-volume output. You will be responsible for the hardware facilitating current flow from battery cells to the grid, including the design of busbars, conductors, harnesses, and their associated enclosures. This role emphasizes custom component design rather than off-the-shelf procurement. Key Responsibilities Develop and size conductors, harnesses, and busbars for high-current power distribution systems. Perform thermal calculations and create analytical tools to ensure components are sized correctly for heat management. Integrate electrical components within large-scale enclosure systems. Create sheet metal designs and enclosure components optimized for manufacturing. Refine current designs to improve assembly reliability and reduce production expenses. Collaborate with external suppliers and contract manufacturers to ensure high-quality component delivery. Qualifications Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering. Minimum of two years of experience in mechanical design for power electronics, such as battery packs, electric vehicles, or high-voltage equipment. Demonstrated expertise in the design of busbars, conductors, or wiring harnesses. Strong grasp of thermal principles, including energy balance, heat dissipation, and component sizing. Proven track record of guiding at least one product from the initial concept phase through to full production. Practical experience with Design for Manufacturing (DFM) on production-grade parts like copper, sheet metal, or plastics. Ability to work on-site at our Berkeley, CA facility. Preferred Skills Background in high-voltage DC system architecture. Experience supporting manufacturing ramps for low to mid-volume products. Direct experience coordinating with contract manufacturing partners. Proficiency in CAD software and GD&T standards (e.g., SolidWorks, NX, or Creo). Why This Opportunity Grid storage represents a rapidly expanding sector of the energy industry, and this organization has moved beyond the research phase into active production. You will have the opportunity to engage in hands-on design work for a product that is still evolving, allowing you to contribute to tangible, shipped hardware rather than simply iterating on established designs.
