Materials Manager
Orion TalentSeeking a Materials Manager to lead the flow of materials supporting its Hingham manufacturing operation. This leader will coordinate purchasing, material planning, inventory control, and warehouse activities to help production teams build and deliver custom power distribution equipment on schedule. The role calls for a hands-on manager who can develop a team, resolve shortages, improve inventory accuracy, and work closely with production, engineering, quality, and supply chain partners. Key responsibilities Lead the materials team and establish clear priorities, performance measures, and development plans. Ensure materials are available to support production schedules and customer commitments. Monitor supplier deliveries and material shortages; coordinate recovery plans when supply issues threaten production. Improve inventory accuracy through sound receiving, storage, cycle counting, and transaction practices. Use SAP or a comparable ERP/MRP system to review demand, inventory, purchase orders, and material data. Partner with engineering and purchasing to manage material changes, new parts, and obsolete inventory. Improve warehouse organization, kitting, and material flow from receipt through production and shipment. Identify opportunities to reduce excess inventory and cost while maintaining reliable material availability. Promote safe work practices and continuous improvement across materials operations. Qualifications Experience leading materials, supply chain, purchasing, planning, or warehouse operations in a manufacturing environment. Strong knowledge of inventory control, MRP, supplier management, and production support. Experience using SAP or another ERP system to manage materials and resolve discrepancies. Demonstrated ability to lead teams and work across manufacturing, engineering, and quality functions. Strong analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills. Experience with custom, make-to-order, or electrical equipment manufacturing is a plus. Military logistics and supply leaders with relevant manufacturing or inventory experience are encouraged to apply.
