Materials Handler (Forklift Operator).

Duties Operate a forklift capable of lifting loads weighing up to 10,000 pounds to load, unload, and move material over various surfaces. Receive, examine and determine the condition and disposition of a wide variety of materials. Interpret procedures, technical manuals, and equipment drawings to verify equipment classification. Knowledge to interpret general warehousing plans for stock in storage areas. Assure items to be shipped/issued are properly marked, tagged and/or properly over packed in suitable containers. Follow general safety practices in operating equipment and performs operator's maintenance on equipment. Requirements Conditions of employment Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation. This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position. This position has a requirement to lift up to 50 lbs. in the regular performance of duties. Appointment to this position is subject to a one-year probationary period unless previously completed. This position is covered by the 1996 Lautenberg Amendment to the Gun Control Act of 1968. Persons convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence are not eligible for the position. Incumbent is required to obtain and maintain a valid state driver’s license and any installation and/or DoD license required for the type of vehicle being driven. Irregular work hours require after normal duty hours, weekends, holidays, evenings, and nights. Incumbent is required to obtain and maintain a valid forklift license.
