Materials Buyer
3-Dimensional Services Group3Dimensional Services Group is seeking a detail-oriented Materials Buyer to source and purchase raw materials, production components, tooling, shop supplies, and outside services supporting a diverse metal manufacturing environment. This role supports operations that may include CNC machining, metal stamping, press brake forming, laser cutting, welding, fabrication,assembly, and other value-added manufacturing services. The Materials Buyer will ensure aluminum, steel, stainless steel, and other metals are available at the required quality, quantity, cost, and delivery date to support customer commitments and production schedules. Key Responsibilities Source, quote, negotiate, and purchase raw materials including aluminum, carbon steel, stainless steel, and other metals in sheet, plate, bar, tube, coil, and structural forms. Purchase production components, tooling, cutting tools, dies, fixtures, shop supplies, packaging, and outside services as needed. Review production schedules, inventory levels, bills of material, and material requirements to prevent shortages and support on-time production. Monitor open purchase orders, confirm supplier delivery dates, and proactively address late, damaged, incorrect, or incomplete shipments. Work closely with Operations, Engineering, Quality and Warehouse teams to prioritize material needs and resolve shortages. Ensure materials meet required specifications, including material grade, alloy, thickness, dimensions, finish, quantity, certifications, and traceability requirements. Coordinate with suppliers and internal Quality personnel to resolve material quality, documentation, delivery, and invoice discrepancies. Maintain accurate purchasing records, supplier information, pricing, lead times, purchase order status, and supporting documentation. Identify opportunities to reduce material costs, improve supplier performance, consolidate spend, and minimize excess or obsolete inventory. Coordinate outside processing services as needed, such as heat treat, plating, anodizing, powder coating, painting, grinding, laser processing, and specialty finishing. Develop and maintain productive relationships with suppliers and identify alternate sources for critical materials and services. High school diploma or GED required, associate’s or bachelor’s degree in business, supply chain, operations, or a related field preferred. 5+ years of purchasing, buying, material planning, supply chain, or manufacturing coordination experience. Experience in a manufacturing, metalworking, fabrication, stamping, machining, or production environment preferred. Familiarity with common metal products, including aluminum, steel, stainless steel, sheet, plate, bar, tube, coil, and structural materials. Ability to interpret purchase requirements, bills of material, material specifications, and basic engineering prints. Experience using ERP/MRP systems for purchasing, inventory, and purchase order management. Proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, Outlook, and Teams. Strong organizational, communication, negotiation, follow-up, and problem-solving skills. Ability to manage competing priorities and respond with urgency in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
